In some parts of the world, there are already people benefiting from the use of solar electricity. This alternative energy is very popular all around the world because of it’s positive effect on both the economy and the environment. With all the research done for solar electricity, we have definitely made a lot of progress over the years.

A very popular component we use for residential solar power are the solar panels. These are used to transform and convert the sunlight into what we call solar electricity. Photovoltaic technology is behind the magic of the solar panel. With the help of photovoltaic cells, it can convert the solar energy it gets from the sun into solar electricity which can then power our lights, televisions and other electrical appliances.

The main tool needed to maximize the use of solar electricity is the solar panel. It is a specialized panel consisting of solar cells that absorbs sunlight and converts it into useful solar electricity. Photovoltaic works through two or more semi-conductors, which are usually made of silicon that is when exposed to light, produces electrical charges that can be converted into direct current.

Nowadays, no matter what country you are in, news about solar electricity are everywhere. There are more and more people that install systems in their homes daily. Why is that so?

We all know that using solar electricity greatly helps not only your country but also for the greater good of the world. The whole process to produce solar energy is harmless as it does not create greenhouse gases hence doesn’t hurt the environment. The full operation and maintenance of the system goes smoothly with minimal checking needed. It is also better than other sources of alternative energy mainly because it runs so quietly. The bonus of lowering your monthly electricity bill doesn’t hurt either.

So how can we start using solar electricity?

First of course is that, we would have to purchase a solar panel that will be responsible to absorb sunlight during daytime. The purchase alone could amount $4-$6 per watt, depending on the amount of energy that we need. The installation is of course another charge.

But if you’re working on a tight budget, never worry since you can build your own solar panels to produce solar electricity by just few clicks on the internet.

With the help of alternative energy like solar electricity, you can save money and of course, the environment. This will certainly make the lives of our children a better one. So start today and give back to the world. You will never regret it.

With energy sources depleting at a rate faster than they are being built, it is only wise that we use the abundant energy available for free ” the solar energy. Solar energy is a great alternative energy source for the fact that is readily available and it does not harm the planet. Many people dont entertain the idea of solar power because they believe it to be out of their budget and a hassle to set up.

However, it may come as a surprise to you to know that it is not that expensive in the long run and not that tedious to set up solar power for your personal use. Moreover, these will help cut down your power bills. Finally, you will be delighted to know that you are doing your bit to save power for the future generations.

This article is intended to help you become more acquainted with solar power and its uses

Its true! With a solar cooker you can cook food without the use of fuel for a meal of up to five people! If you are thinking that using a solar cooker will reduce your chances of spreading up a varied platter on the dining table, you will be surprised to know that you can not only boil food items in the cooker but also roast and bake! With a solar cooker the only extra measure you have to take is to consider the extra time it takes to cook with it. However, that is a small price to pay in order to save the planet and save money on your energy bill.

Solar power can also be used to light up your house. You can have a solar house lighting system that takes solar energy and converts it into useable electrical energy. This is done via cells that are charged with solar energy. So, in the night, if you wonder how the lights are on in the house, it is because of the solar energy stored in the solar cells. You can have your own solar home lighting system by learning how to build a solar panel for your household.

You can install the solar home lighting system in your house and not worry about the electricity bills anymore.

You may also be unaware that you can also install a solar powered heating system for you house.

You dont have to break the bank for a solar heating system. The people that make solar power heating systems know how to limit cost and make systems exclusively for household use, so it is not like you are going to be charged for factory building prices. The initial investment of a solar heating system is going to be worth it in the long run as people get a return on investment within 3-4 years, as youll have free energy after that period.

If you have ever wanted to make your garden more environmentally friendly, have you ever thought of buying a solar powered pump fountain? Going one step further, have you ever considered making your own?

If you have ever wanted to make your garden more environmentally friendly, have you ever thought of buying a solar powered pump fountain? Going one step further, have you ever considered making your own?

So why would you want to make a solar powered pump birdbath?

The Advantages Are:

a: The moving water in the fountain stop its from going stagnant

b: The pump does not have to plugged into your power supply

c: No inverter is needed since the pump operates on direct current.

d: The pump uses minute power (only 6volts) so very few solar panels are needed

e: No batteries are required, since the pump only really needs to operate during the day when the sun is out and the birds are in the garden.

f: You could learn to make your own solar panels, reducing the cost even further.

g: The birdbath is wireless making it very portable.

What parts and materials are needed to build a solar powered pump birdbath?

The simplest option would be for you to add solar panels to an already working birdbath and fountain.

The cheaper, more labor intensive approach would be to get a birdbath with the right holes drilled for the fountain to be installed. And then add on the pump, fountain attachment, irrigation and power supply.

If you decide to make your own fountain, you will need:

The Birdbath:

Here you have a choice of cascading fountains, copper fountains, terracotta birdbaths, resin fountains, or the conventional ceramic birdbath. Just make sure a pump system can be installed on the birdbath.

The Fountain Spout:

Depending on whether you want the water to trickle or spout out the top, you can get the right attachment from most hardware stores or garden centers.

Small DC Pump:

The next part is buying the small dc pump. A typical 6 volt pump should be adequate, but you may need to go bigger, if the birdbath or water feature is larger than normal.

Thin, Flexible PVC Pipe:

This is what the water will flow through. It is best to ask your nursery about the various irrigation options. Otherwise, get ideas from finished pump powered fountains. As a rule of thumb, the PVC piping needs to be narrow to maintain enough water pressure.

Silicon Sealant:

This is used to seal all joins where the water could escape from, and also to insulate any bare wire from getting wet where it has been joined.

The Solar Panels:

This is what sets this off-grid system apart from conventionally powered birdbath fountains. The pump will help determine how many solar panels you need. For a 6 volt DC pump, you will need at least a 6 volt solar panel, but rater double up on the solar panels for times when the sun is weak.

NB: For the solar panels, there are two options:

1 : Buy a small commercially available solar panel from any outlet, such as Wallmart.

2 : Make it yourself. With the right guide it is rather easy and much cheaper to make your own solar panel in a matter of hours. If this is something you would love to try do, then keep reading…

For the solar panel to operate effectively it needs to be fitted in a frame and angled in the direction of the sun. Placing it under a tree will not help.

How simple is it to build?

If you have all the tools and materials and any diy experience, you could have a working solar powered pump birdbath within in a matter of hours – that’s if all goes to plan…

A good idea would to add some batteries to the birdbath, so that the excess solar power can be stored and to power the pump at night. For a 24 hour fountain, you will need:

1) The right battery:

Because the pump is only 6 volts, a 12 volt battery is more than enough. It should be a deep cycle battery (car battery) that can store the power for a longer time.

Charge Controller:

This is not essential, but it prevents your battery from over-charging. So it can really extend the life of the battery. It will be wired up between the solar panels and the battery.

Over and above it being affordable to build, what I like about putting together my own solar powered pump birdbath, is that once the first one is finished, making the second or third one just gets easier. It could even be a fantastic gift for a close friend or newly wed.

Solar energy from the sun is the most abundant source of energy on the planet. The sun provides heat, light, and life to every human on Earth. We can now use our sun to make solar power for everyday use.

Why is solar power better than other forms of energy production?

The solar energy solution is gaining popularity amongst the alternate energy solutions.

Solar power is a green energy. When you examine the solar energy solution, you will discover that it uses no fuel other than the suns light. Also, it will not release anything bad into earth’s atmosphere.

Cheaper solution: First, the energy comes free. Then, the installation cost is a one-time cost. Finally, if you make your solar power system at home and install it yourself, the investment is recovered within a few months of installation (longer depending on how big your solar power system is), making the power generated by solar energy free.

You can store solar power: The big power corporations do not allow you to store the power they send to your home but you can store your own power with solar. Even in the dark or during a complete black out in your area, your power will stay on because you stored your power during the day in what is called a battery bank.

Lower maintenance costs. Solar power systems are very easy to maintain. A solar power system involves minimal effort to maintain letting you relax and enjoy your solar power.

We can start using solar power right now in the following ways:

Solar oven cooking system: You can now cook without using any electricity or gas! You can cook absolutely free! A solar oven will let you bake, boil, or roast! The only slight disadvantage to a solar oven is that it takes a while to heat up. But you will feel great knowing that you cooked your meal without having to pay the big energy corporations a penny!

Solar lighting system: You can now light up the entire house and use every electrical appliance without even thinking about having to turn anything off. The solar power system powers everything in your house even at night, thanks to the battery bank.

Solar heating system: You can make your home nice and warm with a solar heating system without worrying about your energy bill.

If you want to solar power your home for really cheap, you must learn a little about solar panels.

by Lance Jensen

If you want to solar power your home for really cheap, you must learn a little about solar panels.

The first thing you are probably wondering is if it is possible to buy just one solar panel to power your entire home. This is one of the most common questions asked by people looking into installing their own solar power system. You might even have a list of things in your home that you would like to put on this single solar panel such as an air conditioner, dishwasher, TV, and so on.

I’m sorry to tell you that the answer is no. It is impossible for a single solar panel to power an entire house. I’ve lived off the power grid for 15 years and solar panels have come a long way. Even with the latest technology and most expensive solar panels on the market, you would need about 15 solar panels and a dozen or so deep cycle batteries. If you live in the desert or any environment where you really need to run your air conditioning a lot, then you will need even more. Your air conditioner is the most power hungry “appliance” in your home.

What you need to learn is that nothing in your home can be run off of a solar panel. Things in your home are run off a battery bank. The solar panels job is only to keep your battery bank charged. You might think this is just clever semantics but it is not. Voltage spikes are very bad and can fry computer chips in all sorts of appliances. This is why power strips have voltage spike protection in them. If you plugged things in your home directly into a solar panel, every little cloud or bird that crosses between your solar panel and the sun would send a massive voltage spike to whatever you are running off it causing it to fry. You must have a steady flow of electrons coming into your home to power things. This is precisely what a battery bank does for you.

Consider using solar panels to power the things in your home excluding the air conditioner at first. Instead, consider switching your air conditioner over to gas.

If you are gone at work during the day, shut off your air conditioner so that during the day, your power meter is running backwards while very few things in your home are using energy from your battery bank. When you get home in the evening, turn your AC on and you will then be using energy from your power company.

You should be able to cut your bill by 75% or more doing this as long as you don’t live in too hot a climate and thus don’t have to run your AC that much at night.

If you are thinking of doing a few upgrades to your garden, have you ever thought of getting a solar powered pump birdbath? In fact, why buy one, when you can make it?

by Tim McDonald

If you are thinking of doing a few upgrades to your garden, have you ever thought of getting a solar powered pump birdbath? In fact, why buy one, when you can make it?

So why would you want to make a solar powered pump birdbath?

The pros to getting one are:

a: The moving water in the fountain stop its from going stagnant

b: The pump does not have to plugged into your power supply

c: No inverter is needed since the pump operates on direct current.

d: The pump uses minute power (only 6volts) so very few solar panels are needed

e: Batteries are optional, since you usually only want the fountain to operate in the day when the birds are around.

f: You can save more money by making the entire birdbath and fountain yourself, even the solar panels.

g: The birdbath can be placed anywhere in your garden, without the need for unsightly wires.

What parts and materials are needed to build a solar powered pump birdbath?

The easiest way is to simply buy a birdbath with a pump and fountain already fitted. Then all you need to do is wire up some small solar panels.

The alternative is to, and more DIY approach is to buy a birdbath that is ready for a fountain pump to be installed (it has the right holes, and a place for the pump to be installed), and then add the various pump and power components.

If you go the DIY route, then you will need to get:

A Birdbath

It does not matter what birdbath you buy, but make sure there is a place for the fountain to be added. A few options for you would be copper, terracotta, cascading, ceramic, or resin birdbath fountains.

The Fountain Spout:

This attachment can be source from your nearby hardware store or garden center. It is an optional extra that helps make the water spout out of the top, instead of a small trickle.

Small Fountain Pump:

Depending your birdbath size, the volume of water to be pumped and how high you want to pump it, will help you decide on the voltage and size pump needed. For your average, medium-sized birdbath, a small 6 volt DC pump will suffice.

Tubing for irrigation:

This tubing generally should be narrow enough to keep the water pressure high, so that the water can be pumped properly. My advice would be to visit the nearby garden center and have a look at what piping is used.

Silicon Sealant:

Silicon sealant helps fill any cracks where water could escape, such as where the tubing enters the top of the birdbath. It can also be used to insulate any bare wires.

The Solar Panels:

This is what makes this birdbath unique to your average water fountain. Depending on what size pump you buy, will need to get enough solar panels for the fountain to work properly. A a typical 6 volt pump, you will require solar panels with a capacity of at least 6 volts. But is better to be on the safe side and get a 12 volt solar panel instead, for times when it is cloudy and for late afternoons.

NB: For the solar panels, there are two options:

1 : Buy a small expensive solar kit from Wallmart or Target or any other local supplier.

2: Make your own solar panel. This is actually much easier than people make it out to be. With the right instructions you could build your own panel in an afternoon. If you want to go the diy way, then keep reading…

A nice added extra is to hook up some batteries to the system. That way you can store any excess power, and the pump could run all day and night. If you do want the fountain to operate for 24 hours, then you will need the following:

1) The right battery:

Since the system is small, a 12 volt battery should be enough. This will be wired up between the charge controller and the pump.

Charge controller:

This is not that important, but to protect the battery from over-charging and to maximize it lifespan, you should a charge controller that sits between the solar panels and the battery.

The nice thing about about building a solar powered pump birdbath yourself is that it is not only cheaper, but once you know how, you can make as many as you want. It could also make a great gift for an energy conscious friend or family member.

Alternative energy sources are playing an important role in preserving the life of the people and the environment in general. This is evident because they do not release carbon-based warming and dangerous substances into the atmosphere. It also minimizes the financial expenses of the people by not paying the monthly bills for the energy use. The renewable energy sources are more sustainable because they can be used repeatedly without running out the power supply.

The Residential Solar Power is frequently used as the most viable alternative energy source for the individuals today. It is a very good source of energy that definitely saves you from the monthly electric bills for your home energy consumption. Prices of energy use these days are out of peoples control, thus, people must resort to using the renewable source of energy to lessen your financial obligation at home.

The most effective and feasible way to solve the energy crisis is to install the residential solar panels instead of continuously patronizing the energy services of some private companies. Once the solar panels are successfully installed, you are already free from the monthly financial obligation. They have a very long life span and they come in all shapes and sizes, making them suitable to be installed almost anywhere. It would be better if you have the knowledge on how to make solar power.

Solar energy serves as the most practical answer to the uncontrollable rising of energy prices these days. Other available renewable energy sources have been utilized as well in order to lessen the financial expenses of the people. Solar generators are needed in order to produce the solar energy. The solar panels are useful in absorbing the sunlight which you then convert to electrical energy with the aid of the generators. These generators are then hooked up into your home and finally the electrical energy is transferred there.

To successfully turn your home into a residential solar power you need to be situated to a place where there is plenty of sunlight. An open space area would be very feasible to generate more solar energy. However, you need to find out first if the residential solar power conversion is legally allowed in the community where you live in. This is really a great solution to the rampant problem on energy price increase today.

The residential solar power is the best solution to get away from the financial burden nowadays. It is not only favourable to the people, but also to the environment because it does not contribute to anything that harms the atmosphere and the Earth in general. To resolve the energy crisis nowadays, people should turn into using the renewable source of energy like the solar energy. It is for the benefit of the people and the surroundings.

The sun is a giant star in our solar system that provides heat and light to our planet. Every day, the heat of the sun washes over Planet Earth as a form of solar power. So, What is residential solar power and how does it work?

The Basics of Residential Solar Power

The energy given off by the sun is a form of radiation. Planet Earth and other planets get the benefit of this life-giving UVA or UVB radiation. Put another way, the benevolent sun is showering the earth with its warmth and light.

Most of the sun’s rays are bounced back into space as they enter the Earth’s atmosphere, but enough of is absorbed by the earth, giving us enough energy to fuel every home across the planet. Sadly, we still have not yet achieved this level of solar power production.

Have you noticed how many more solar panels you can see on rooftops and in people’s gardens and back yards? They all look a lot better these days. No longer do we live in a time when only the rich could afford solar power for homes.

I’m about to get technical with you now. Don’t worry. I’ll go slowly!

At this point I am about to start talking in scientific terms, but bare with me. It wont be for long I assure you!

Residential Solar Power – The Science

Solar panels are made up of an array of solar cells, also known as photovoltaic cells. These cells more often than not come as a form of silicon or some other semi-conductive-type material. They are arranged positive to negative, end to end, in a uniform way to create the solar panel itself.

For best effect, place the panel to the south of the building to capture the maximum amount of sunlight. When the sunlight strikes the solar panel, the radiation is absorbed into the solar cell as heat.

The light energy (photons) hits the solar cells and electrons are knocked loose.

Now that the electrons are loose, they rush to the other end of the photovoltaic cell. In this motion, electrical energy is made, the selfsame electrical energy you use to power your appliances in your home.

Almost there now! However, the electrical current is still in a Direct Current (DC) format. All homes and houses work with Alternating Current (AC), so we still need to do some more work to make this a useful exercise.

At this point, the residential solar power system starts to come into its own. The electricity that is made by the solar panel, or PV (photovoltaic) array, is then sent to a DC disconnect device. This device interrupts the flow of electricity from the array.

Right about now, you can use one of two methods to send the electricity around your home. You could directly connect your residential solar power system to your homes electricity system. You will then have to pass the electricity through an inverter to transform your DC current into AC current.

You electricity supply is almost ready to use. It passes through the inverter direct to all the AC outlets in your home.

Alternatively, you can invest in some deep cycle batteries and direct all that excess solar energy into them so they can store it all up for use at a later time when you might need it more.

To Conclude …

Using residential solar power will reduce your domestic utility bills. When you do introduce your solar power system you will know that you are ahead of the curve, foreseeing the future that, without doubt, will be crying out for alternative energy sources that are renewable and sustainable.

Solar lights are getting more and more popular amongst household owners, especially ones who care a lot about the safety of the environment we live in. Solar lights are known to be very environmental friendly and instead of wasting energy they help preserve it.

Solar lights are very popular for being friendly to the environment and not using any electricity or precious energy to work. They can simply get their energy from natural sunlight during the day.

The less energy and electricity you use, the less you have to pay, and since solar lights depend on only sunlight, you don’t have to worry about any electricity bill coming from using them

Solar lights are meant to provide your garden with extra unique beauty at night. But they are not only used in gardens, solar lights are used in almost anywhere you want to decorate. They are good for decks, patios, backyards, sidewalks and even your front door.

The biggest advantage of using solar lights for your outdoors is that they are wireless, which means you can put them up wherever you like without worrying about any plugs or wires.

It’s very important that you don’t forget that solar lights need the sunlight to recharge in order for them to work properly after sunset, this means your choices in placing them might be somewhat limited.

Outdoor solar lights need approximately 7 hours of sunlight a day in order for them to work properly during the night, if not, you will begin noticing that your solar lights aren’t glowing as much as they used to.

If you experience different changes in the way your solar lights work, like if a few of them stop working or they don’t glow as bright. The biggest chance is that you need a new battery.

Solar batteries die naturally after many uses, but many things can speed up their limited life span and one of those is not getting enough sunlight. The less sunlight your solar batteries are provided with, the longer it’ll wear out and the more often you’ll have to replace it.

You also need to know that solar lights need a lot of care, you should consider the thought that since they are mostly used outdoors they will dirty easily.

It really isn’t a problem if your solar lights need to be cleaned, all you have to do is prepare a damp piece of cloth and wipe them carefully, make sure you do not add too much water; solar lights are known to be water resistant, not water proof. Water can do severe damage to your solar lights.

Solar lights are very durable because they are made of LED bulbs, in other words: light emitting diode. So there’s no need to worry much about causing damage.

If you are using solar lights for your outdoors there is less chance of a fire starting as solar lights are 100% safe to you and your environment.

In this industrialized age people are financially pressured by the big commercial companies that supply the energy needs to each individual. The moment these companies decide to increase the charge of their services you can no longer stop it because they are privately established. Thus, this fact has brought some financial trouble to the average family in the society. However, despite of this serious concern, people can still find a viable solution to the issue. As an alternative, renewable energy sources can be a feasible replacement to the energy sources we get from the private businesses.

There is really something that individuals can do in order to live practically and economically. This is through the use of the renewable energy sources such as the wind, sun, hydropower etc. These sources of energy are not only helping the people save money, but are also preserving the environment by not releasing some carbon-based warming and other hazardous substances into the atmosphere. You will definitely not going to run out of energy and power from these alternative energy sources.

It is not advisable to take the energy consumption at home from the companies that provide such services. They are not helping the consumers and not saving the Earth in general for what they do. Their main objective is for profit and thats all. The solution to this is to create your own homemade wind generator in order to save some money. This move is even more practical and convenient to the majority of the people living today.

The energy that is produced out of the wind power generators is unlimited. This means that the power generated out of it gives a lifetime benefit for your energy need. The use of this homemade wind power absolutely reduces your reliance on fossil fuels and also your carbon footprint. To set up a wind generator at home you need to have a DC motor, a blade, a hub and a tower. If you are not familiar with these things you may ask for the needed assistance from anyone who knows how to make one.

From the professionals point of view, the height of the tower must be reasonable taller in order to produce more power and energy. The perfect spot for the tower will be a good-sized open space, having a reasonably steady wind-flow and tower height freedom. You may research over the Internet on the effective tips on how to make your own wind generator. Other resources are available from books that feature about the alternative energy sources.

The alternative energy sources are helpful in combating the financial crisis on energy consumption these days. You can conveniently install an alternative energy of your own in order to save money. There are some reliable guides authored by the experts to help people become independent when it comes to their energy needs. The instructions are plain and simple; you just have to carefully follow them to eventually have your residential power generation.
