Though many of us think that green building and green restoration fundamentally benefit the environment, there’s really much more to them. Green builders are ardent on exclaiming that their efforts are engineered to create shelter that is’s good for folks, good for the planet, and good for the economy.

Green home building and transforming are great for people because they result in more healthy and more comfortable houses. They also are excellent for us because they produce less pollution, protecting air we breathe and the water we drink. As a effect green enhancements help to cut the possibility of contracting diseases due to pollution like lung cancer and asthma.

Green DIY can lead to far less resource complete approach to life. Easing our obligation for vital resources guarantees future generations an opportunity to meet their wishes and live a good life, too. Green rebuilding is also good for employees in factories that produce building products as well as those that install them as it is dependent on materials that are made without damaging chemicals Green building is good for the economy, too.

On a personal level, green enhancements can help owners and renters lower their gas and electric bills, saving major amounts, regularly straight away. Energy conservation and green energy measures supply a protection against inflation due to rising fuel costs.

Some enhancements, like water deficient showerheads and toilets help us reduce our water and sewer bills too. All of these business benefits aid in making our lives more cost-effective as energy and water costs rise, green home enhancements also increase the value and appeal of our homes. Green home projects provide community wide benefits. They create roles and new business possibilities for builders and contractors, and investment opportunities that help in promoting a strong and healthy economy which helps us all.

While the import of defending our health and controlling routine costs can’t be overstated, a first reason for green home enhancements is naturally that they are glorious for the environment. By providing the efficient use of natural resources and the employment of replaceable resources, these measures help stop the eradication of the habitats of wildlife.

Green do it yourself also makes a contribution to a higher level of environmental stewardship, helping make a fitter world not only for folk but for the millions of species that share the planet with us. Environmental protection efforts help preserve the more required resources we depend on – the air we breathe and the water we drink. Actually, then, green do-it-yourself is the final form of self protection helping to guarantee a good life now and into the future.

Every home will have a water heater. A water heater is one those conveniences that many of us take for granted. In fact, many of us do not stop to think about the heater unless there happens to be no hot water or it suddenly stops working. Many people do not realize that there are steps they can take to ensure the long life of their water heaters.

How a Heater Works

There are a number of different types of water heaters available today. These include electric water heaters, tank-less water heaters, and gas water heaters, just to name a few. Electric and gas water heaters are the two most commonly types of water heaters found in homes. They are very similar in design, except that the electric water heater has a heating element in the water tank. The gas water heater uses a burner at the bottom, and the exhaust is vented by a pipe that runs through the tank.

Cold water enters the tank near the bottom of the heater and the heating begins. As the water is being used it is constantly replaced. The pressure valve is an essential feature that prevents excess pressure from building up which can possibly causing an explosion. Tank-less water heaters as the name implies, do not rely on stored water to function. They work by directing water over the heating element, which then comes out the tap as hot water.

Maintaining Your Heater

Like so many other devices in the home, maintenance is important to keeping your heater from breaking down. Basic maintenance can actually be done in three simple steps which include:

- Turn the temperature down – The heater has a knob that controls the setting of the temperature. Putting it at roughly 115 degrees will not only reduce pressure on the heater, it will save you some money. – Check the temperature and pressure valve – this is done by raising the lever about halfway, then releasing it. A bubbling sound indicates that the valve is functioning properly. No sound means the valve is faulty and it should be replaced. – Flush the tank – this is not a big task and in fact does not involve removing all the water. It can be done by releasing some of the water via the drain valve near the bottom of the tank. The valve itself may vary depending on the type of tank. Sometimes it is necessary to drain all the water, but a partial flash done occasionally can help to prevent your heater from breaking down.

Tank-less water heaters are becoming more popular simply because they are efficient and require little maintenance. Checking the pressure valve and partial flushing should be done about every six months. Flushing helps to remove sediments that may have settled at the bottom. This helps to prevent rust, and it improves the tank’s overall function.

So the next time you use your water heater, remember that some maintenance that you can do yourself will extend the life of the heater.

As utilities grow old, air condition repair Toronto and furnace condition repair Toronto is necessary. To be equipped for winter, heating Toronto should be checked regularly, allowing sufficient time for maintenance.

With energy sources depleting at a rate faster than they are being built, it is only wise that we use the abundant energy available for free ” the solar energy. Solar energy is a great alternative energy source for the fact that is readily available and it does not harm the planet. Many people dont entertain the idea of solar power because they believe it to be out of their budget and a hassle to set up.

However, it may come as a surprise to you to know that it is not that expensive in the long run and not that tedious to set up solar power for your personal use. Moreover, these will help cut down your power bills. Finally, you will be delighted to know that you are doing your bit to save power for the future generations.

This article is intended to help you become more acquainted with solar power and its uses

Its true! With a solar cooker you can cook food without the use of fuel for a meal of up to five people! If you are thinking that using a solar cooker will reduce your chances of spreading up a varied platter on the dining table, you will be surprised to know that you can not only boil food items in the cooker but also roast and bake! With a solar cooker the only extra measure you have to take is to consider the extra time it takes to cook with it. However, that is a small price to pay in order to save the planet and save money on your energy bill.

Solar power can also be used to light up your house. You can have a solar house lighting system that takes solar energy and converts it into useable electrical energy. This is done via cells that are charged with solar energy. So, in the night, if you wonder how the lights are on in the house, it is because of the solar energy stored in the solar cells. You can have your own solar home lighting system by learning how to build a solar panel for your household.

You can install the solar home lighting system in your house and not worry about the electricity bills anymore.

You may also be unaware that you can also install a solar powered heating system for you house.

You dont have to break the bank for a solar heating system. The people that make solar power heating systems know how to limit cost and make systems exclusively for household use, so it is not like you are going to be charged for factory building prices. The initial investment of a solar heating system is going to be worth it in the long run as people get a return on investment within 3-4 years, as youll have free energy after that period.

So have you finally realized how important it is to have a house water filter? You’ve probably read the plethora of reports on it and with the existence of such reports one would think that it would be obvious how important a water filter actually is. Strangely and unfortunately not everyone has quite realized how necessary this simple household item actually is.

People think that the EPA and waste water facilities are going to save them from the contaminated water, but one has to consider how hard it is to clean the water. Yes, these government services are doing all that they can to keep the water clean, but is it enough for them to promise that we won’t be hurt at all? Absolutely not, it’s just too much work to keep the water that clean.

Home water filter systems are necessary because the waste water treatment facilities have not been able to upgrade their equipment from the demineralization units that were adequate for them to use many years ago. Most municipalities simply do not have the money in their budgets to completely overhaul these facilities in the way that they need to in order to keep us healthy.

If you need more evidence that house water filters are important, then take into account that the EPA has recommended everyone get one in order to defend their families against the germs and contaminants that are currently floating around in the water. The EPA realizes that the equipment is inadequate, and as such they have authorized what are known as safe limits for water contamination.

While they have imposed these safe limits, they themselves know that there really is no safe amount of contaminants in the water. Chemicals are funny things, they feed off each other until they become more potent, and that is the greatest threat in our drinking water these days.

More than two thousand chemicals have been discovered in water that are carcinogens, or cancer causing germs. If you get a home water filter than you will be able to stop most of them, and it will keep everyone in your household safe.

Home water filter systems that contain an activated granular carbon filter and a multi media block will offer you all of the protection that you need. High quality units will also contain a sub micron filter and an ion exchange in order to remove any bacterial matter or heavy metal traces from your water. An ion exchange will also introduce electrolytes back into your water, and balance you pH level.

If you, or anyone that you know thinks that house water filters are not an important part of our lives, then youd better think again. Our water is simply not safe for us to drink no matter what anyone may tell you to the contrary.

Derek Reeve has been connected with water systems for more than a decade. Go and visit his web site for the best drinking water purification systems.

Over time, drains and sewers, like all of us get older and in time will deteriorate and get worse. Walls can collapse, blockages can occur and the result is that you get drainage problems. The cause can be things like ground movement, intrusion from things like tree roots or it could be that the drains are simply badly constructed in the first place.better to know rather than guess at the root cause of problems underground

The simple fact is that you cannot tell from above ground exactly what is going on with a drain that is underground. You need to know exactly what is going on- where the blockage is happening for example, so the best solution can be found. Blockages can be from many causes, organic or otherwise, they need to be removed and quickly so that problems don’t worsen

Once you know that you have a drainage problem, there are a couple of ways that you can diagnose the problem. Using CCTV, there are two systems available to you. These are the push rod and also available is the crawler system. The push rod and the crawler system are both available through reputable drainage specialist- better perhaps to know that they are available so you can ask your drainage contractor which they carry. They should carry both systems

The crawler system is used for drainage pipes over 150mm in diameter. Smaller drainage systems (less than 150mm) are diagnosed using the push rod system. Full, detailed reports are then compiled to show exactly what is wrong with the drain so you can then decide what is the best method of solving the drainage problem

An experienced CCTV operator will look out for a variety of problems. Collapsed drains can look remarkably similar to blocked drains and the two problems may need to be tackled in different ways. Tree roots can be seen through the camera lens. Surveys can be written up into a document and then written to a DVD so that they can be stored and recalled easily in the future

If you are planning to build and extension to a property, CCTV can be used for a build over survey. Basically, this is a survey of the drainage condition underground so that you can see the condition before building over them. If you bury a problem, it will be much more expensive in the future should problems arise in the future

Even more so than in the home, the proper maintenance of an HVAC (heating, ventilation, and air conditioning) system is important in school buildings. There are a number of reasons why it’s vital that a school keep its hvac equipment well maintained and cared for. Any school facilities administrator needs to stay on top of the status of HVAC units in the school and ensure they are working properly.

One important factor to consider is that school buildings are generally much larger than personal homes or apartments. That means that HVAC systems in school buildings are going to have to be larger as well. With more area to cover in terms of ductwork and a more powerful unit needed to heat, cool, and ventilate a school, there is also a greater chance of something going wrong.

Also, when a problem does occur it may be harder to track down its exact source since the system is so large. That’s why it’s a good idea to do regular preventative maintenance on an HVAC system so that problems can be detected and fixed early.

It’s a major problem if any element of an HVAC system fails while school is in session. If the heating fails during the winter, then the students will get cold and could even get sick if they’re stuck in the cold for too long. The school will no doubt get some complaints from parents if their children come home sniffling because the heating system broke.

It’s equally important that the cooling and ventilation systems work properly. Most school classrooms have anywhere between 20 and 40 people packed in to a relatively small space. If the cooling system fails on a hot summer day, those classrooms can practically turn into saunas. The body heat of so many people all in the space can really ramp up the temperature.

Ventilation problems can also be made more severe by the sheer number of people who are often in classrooms. It could lead to students getting really uncomfortable, and potentially even cause problems for people with asthma or similar conditions.

In order to keep on top of HVAC system maintenance in a school building, there are a few important steps that should be undertaken. The filters in the units should be replaced once every couple of months in order to ensure that they stay clean and don’t become a breeding ground for mold and fungus. The filters will need to be changed more often in dirtier environments.

Also, the evaporator and condenser coils should be cleaned once or twice each year. Evaporator coils are pretty much always damp, making them a likely spot for mold or fungus to grow and affect the air supply. Condenser coils are easily damaged and degraded by dirt buildup. Routine cleaning of these key components of the HVAC system will not only extend the life of the system, but will also make it run more efficiently.

These key steps, along with routine inspections, will help make sure that a school’s HVAC system stays in good shape.

If you get home and find out that you have a blocked drain then the there is always a cause for this problem. The first thing you need to do to save you time and money is to get a professional in to unblock the drain and then do a CCTV drain camera survey to find out what and where the problem is. Next we need to find the most suitable way to fix the problem that the CCTV survey has shown if any of course as sometimes things like wet wipes can block drains. Assuming the drain report has shown a problem we then need to work out how to fix it i.e if its collapsed it will have to be excavated , if it has root intrusion they will have to be cut out then patched and if it is grease or fat it will have to be cleaned with a high pressure water jetter

Root intrusion in to the drainage system always and up with the same result a blockage and when left to get out of control can even cause your pipe to collapse. If you think you have this problem again get a cctv drain camera survey to check .If there are roots the survey will pin point where the roots are. Next a drainage professional will cut the roots out the the aid of a root cutter on the end of a high pressure water jetting hose which will gently cut the intruding roots out. Then they should really patch the affected area to stop the roots grow back. You dont have to do this but it is really false economy as in a few months the roots will grow back and your drain will block again

One of the most common drainage repairs required is to cure a collapsed or cracked drain. A collapse can occur due to the old pipe cracking due to a heavy weight placed above ground or just general age. Drains may crack and joints open up resulting from ground movement, water infiltration, root ingress or vehicular traffic. The only solution in the past has been to locate the defective area and repair the pipe after excavating to expose the drain

It is not unheard of for foreign objects to be accidentally dropped down drainage systems especially on new build sites if man hole covers are left of during construction. I have seen all sorts of things down there including stones, wood and even work mens tools. Another favorite to be left down drains is drain rods, they normally come apart when people try to unblock their own drains instead of calling in the professionals. These obstructions can normally be removed with a high pressure water jetting machine but in more stubborn cases the drain can have to be dug up and replaced with new

This is a very cost effective, time saving and stress free product. No Dig Technology allows you to fix cracks, open joints and root ingress from within the pipe saving the stress, hassle and back ache of digging up a clients patio or lawn. We use a product made by Fernco but there are others on the market. Basically you measure in the pipe as to where the defect is by using a cctv drain camera. Then place the mating on the floor and fold as instructed, next spread the resin over the mat and wrap around the rubber inflatable packer. Push the packer down the drain to the defect and inflate using an air compressor. Leave to set and pull the packer out. The mat is left down the drain leaving a perfectly smooth patch covering the old defect

There are certain times when you have to excavate to get to the affected piece of pipe for example when a drain has collapsed you physically cant get a packer through the pipe to patch it. What you do is carefully remove the top layer of grass or patio slabs and store them safely ready for reinstating. Next you dig down to the defective area and cut out and replace the piece of pipe using slip collars to refit the new piece. Sometimes you might be cutting out a piece of clay pipe and replacing with pvc. The clay pipe is thicker than the pvc but that is not a problem as you can buy clay to pvc collars. Once the new pipe is instated cover the pipe with small chippings then backfill with what was excavated. Last but not least place back the grass or patio slabs to make the top layer as good as new

Earth4Energy is an online video series that teaches you step-by-step how to make solar panel and your own windmill for just $125. Compared to the windmills you are able to buy in storehouses, Earth4Energy windmills are extremely inexpensive.

Solar electricity and range factories arrangements established up by pro corporations typically take an investment funds of $ 3,000 or more. The give back on this investment is obvious only later on some years.

Michael Harvey, the author, has been working with renewable energy technologies for more than fifteen years, has made his vast knowledge available in the form of an ebook. The content is based on Michaels personal experiences with employing renewable energy systems.

Solar power is becoming cheaper and democratic, because the cost of the equipment has become comparable with other sources of energy. Investing in solar energy now, when the stock market is very low, can increase your chances for higher returns once the market is no more volatile and unpredictable.

Earth4Energy is one of the finest products that have been introduced to assist each day people like you and I save money on energy prices, and help save the environment, as well. Anyone can use the detailed guide and videos to learn how to make solar panel and windmills to help reduce, or even eliminate, their energy costs.

Wind energy is one of the most democratic energy technologies. Opinion surveys regularly show that just over 8 out of 10 people are in favour of wind power, and less than 1 in 10 (around 5%) are against it. Windmills eliminate the dependence on power plants and the government for electricity. With a windmill in your land, you have your own power station for life.

Earth4Energy is here to help in these times of both global warming and ever increasing energy costs. Using Earth4Energy to show you how to take advantage of solar energy or wind power at home is something many people are doing. Learn how to make solar panel and save the environment with rooftop solar energy generators and wind power generators.

You will learn how to make solar panel and save money at the same time help environment.

If you have ever wanted to make your garden more environmentally friendly, have you ever thought of buying a solar powered pump fountain? Going one step further, have you ever considered making your own?

If you have ever wanted to make your garden more environmentally friendly, have you ever thought of buying a solar powered pump fountain? Going one step further, have you ever considered making your own?

So why would you want to make a solar powered pump birdbath?

The Advantages Are:

a: The moving water in the fountain stop its from going stagnant

b: The pump does not have to plugged into your power supply

c: No inverter is needed since the pump operates on direct current.

d: The pump uses minute power (only 6volts) so very few solar panels are needed

e: No batteries are required, since the pump only really needs to operate during the day when the sun is out and the birds are in the garden.

f: You could learn to make your own solar panels, reducing the cost even further.

g: The birdbath is wireless making it very portable.

What parts and materials are needed to build a solar powered pump birdbath?

The simplest option would be for you to add solar panels to an already working birdbath and fountain.

The cheaper, more labor intensive approach would be to get a birdbath with the right holes drilled for the fountain to be installed. And then add on the pump, fountain attachment, irrigation and power supply.

If you decide to make your own fountain, you will need:

The Birdbath:

Here you have a choice of cascading fountains, copper fountains, terracotta birdbaths, resin fountains, or the conventional ceramic birdbath. Just make sure a pump system can be installed on the birdbath.

The Fountain Spout:

Depending on whether you want the water to trickle or spout out the top, you can get the right attachment from most hardware stores or garden centers.

Small DC Pump:

The next part is buying the small dc pump. A typical 6 volt pump should be adequate, but you may need to go bigger, if the birdbath or water feature is larger than normal.

Thin, Flexible PVC Pipe:

This is what the water will flow through. It is best to ask your nursery about the various irrigation options. Otherwise, get ideas from finished pump powered fountains. As a rule of thumb, the PVC piping needs to be narrow to maintain enough water pressure.

Silicon Sealant:

This is used to seal all joins where the water could escape from, and also to insulate any bare wire from getting wet where it has been joined.

The Solar Panels:

This is what sets this off-grid system apart from conventionally powered birdbath fountains. The pump will help determine how many solar panels you need. For a 6 volt DC pump, you will need at least a 6 volt solar panel, but rater double up on the solar panels for times when the sun is weak.

NB: For the solar panels, there are two options:

1 : Buy a small commercially available solar panel from any outlet, such as Wallmart.

2 : Make it yourself. With the right guide it is rather easy and much cheaper to make your own solar panel in a matter of hours. If this is something you would love to try do, then keep reading…

For the solar panel to operate effectively it needs to be fitted in a frame and angled in the direction of the sun. Placing it under a tree will not help.

How simple is it to build?

If you have all the tools and materials and any diy experience, you could have a working solar powered pump birdbath within in a matter of hours – that’s if all goes to plan…

A good idea would to add some batteries to the birdbath, so that the excess solar power can be stored and to power the pump at night. For a 24 hour fountain, you will need:

1) The right battery:

Because the pump is only 6 volts, a 12 volt battery is more than enough. It should be a deep cycle battery (car battery) that can store the power for a longer time.

Charge Controller:

This is not essential, but it prevents your battery from over-charging. So it can really extend the life of the battery. It will be wired up between the solar panels and the battery.

Over and above it being affordable to build, what I like about putting together my own solar powered pump birdbath, is that once the first one is finished, making the second or third one just gets easier. It could even be a fantastic gift for a close friend or newly wed.
