Fossil fuel consumption is a dead end. The environment is in deep trouble, and the energy choices of the past will not work for us any longer. Science is hunting for a new alternative, one that will not only be eco-friendly, but inexpensive enough to manufacture so that it will also be friendly to those with small budgets. Individuals can harness wind power for the home as one option to helping find a solution to the energy problem.

But perceptions have not caught up to the existing technology. Until these outdated attitudes are changed, and more funding provided for vital research into alternative energy sources, costs to install wind power for the home use market will continue to be too high for the average person to afford.

Until recently, installing a windmill has been a pretty high-ticket item, financially. While a system that provides wind power for the home does, eventually, repay the investment, it takes a significant amount of time to see a return when the initial costs are so high. This can discourage most people from making the attempt.

But it’s not all bad news. Recently there have appeared on the market a number of inexpensive solutions allowing average homeowners the opportunity to put wind power to work for the home, using excellent, robust DIY kits that can be put together in just a few hours.

Take the following into consideration when buying a windmill:

*If you’re concerned about the environment, and want to lower your energy bill into the bargain, making the decision to harness wind power for the home you live in is an easy one to make. Not only does it contribute to the solution rather than the problem, making you feel pretty good about your choice, but you get the joy of watching your energy bill shrink every month. Prior to making your purchase, please keep the following important considerations in mind.

Ideally, your windmill should be set up in a spot where the average wind speed is 11 miles per hour. Slightly lower speeds, however, are still reaping results for people, so it’s a judgment call.

*Decide in advance just how much output you’d like your windmill to generate; the initial outlay is so small, many people choose to buy 2 or 3 kits and still find they are seeing the payoff after only a short time.

Look for sturdy, robust components. If you live in an area that frequently gets heavy winds, you don’t want to risk damage to your investment.

*Prices vary. Check out the equipment now on the market and compare prices, so you can pick the parts best suited for your unique site and budget limitations.

What features to look for in a DIY windmill?

*Helpful illustrations. Seeing what the finished product is supposed to look like helps tremendously over relying on text alone. Find a kit that provides clear visuals and your project will go much more smoothly.

*Well written guide. You don’t want to have to guess what the author of the manual was trying to get across. You want to enjoy your weekend project, not be frustrated by it. Make sure to get a kit that offers instructions that are clear and concise.

*Component descriptions. A good kit will include a guide to all the components you’ll need to install wind power to the home, including detailed descriptions and clear illustrations. As an added bonus, some will even take the extra step of describing components you will need for your own unique situation.

*Local information. You don’t care where in Podunk you can buy what you need. You want to know where in your area you can get the equipment for you windmill. Look for a guide that gives you exactly that.

Wind power for the home is an achievable dream. With just a small investment, which will be paying you back indefinitely, you can build your own windmill and do your part for the earth.

The extensive waste management strike in Toronto left citizens under piles of garbage and a sea of anger. The strike was a result of the waste management Labor unions requesting a wage increase to match other municipal workers. Their request was denied, resulting in a collective refusal to work. Such immediate and severe action finally caused Toronto officials to sit up and take notice.

Its affect Other than the layers of garbage bags lining the streets, the strike also resulted in a 25% increase in sales of waste-removal products. Furthermore, it has generally forced residents to think carefully about how to dispose of their waste making environmentally friendly recycling a necessary option for those desperate to clean out their garbage.

Though the strike has left many to believe it is creating a mess out of the once beautiful city, there are some benefits to be gained. It is beginning to force residents to think of creative ways to minimize garbage as well as to recycle regularly and consider composting. By improving your method of waste control, you can help to reduce the already overflowing landfills and reduce environmental damage until they make the garbage removal Toronto.

How to improve your waste disposal Bags are available to buy and each one stores between 30-40 bags of regular rubbish. Including recyclable items such as milk cartons, newspapers, glass bottles and plastics is an unnecessary waste for rhino bags. Such bags sell for between $20 and $40. They can be purchased from store and can be dropped off and picked up at your convenience.

Composting As composting is an organic process it reduces waste using waste to feed your soil. Garden organics such as leaves, grass clippings as well as food waste such as vegetable peels, coffee grounds and egg shells can be composted to create organic materials that can then be used in the garden. Even materials such as human and animal hair and newspapers can be composted effectively.

In order to compost you will need to purchase a solid green bin. First, start with a thick layer of twigs or coarse mulch at the base for drainage. Then layer on your kitchen organics and green garden organics. Cover with a layer of brown garden organics ensuring no food waste is left exposed. Moisten and repeat the process. In eight weeks the compost will be ready to use. To ensure it does not smell make sure it is not too wet and air can circulate through the layers. A common cause is putting in too much food waste and not enough dry waste. In such cases, fork in dry mulch such as leaves or twigs. Turn the compost to also get more air in.

Recycling The Blue Bin recycling program can be used to dispose of both paper and recyclable materials such as alcohol beverage containers, paper and foam polystyrene. This includes foam protective packaging, foam meat trays, foam takeout food containers, foam plates, foam egg cartons and foam coffee cups. Please note such items must be rinsed to ensure no residue remains.

Choosing a public storage facility in Canada has never been easier or more affordable. The possibilities are endless: climate control facilities, boat storage, and even storage as small as safe mobile storage facilities can be available in certain storage facilities. public storage Toronto, London and more facilities are now offering the lease of boxes to help you back, buying them back when you no longer need them. Before jumping in and choosing a storage facility it is important to understand what you need to ensure you don’t waste money or space unnecessarily.

What sizes are available? General storage for furniture starts from 5′x5′. This is generally compatible with the size of a walk-in closet. This is more suited to limited and small items of furniture.

A 5′x10′ will fit a will store a sofa, chair, dresser, and mattress set in addition to miscellaneous boxes and small items. This is suited when storing a room’s worth of possessions.

A 10′x10′is close to the size of a one car garage. It will generally hold the furnishings of a one-bedroom apartment: approximately three rooms of furniture(beds, couches, dresser etc.) , boxes for small personal possessions, and possibly appliances.

A 10 X 15 foot storage unit, 150 square feet of space, will house the furnishings of a two-bedroom sized apartment or small house. This unit will generally hold all furnishings and personal effects, with or without major appliances.

A 10 X 20 foot storage unit is comparable to a smaller one-car garage. These 200 square feet of space allow storage for a small house, apartment or townhouse, including appliances. Without appliances or furnishings, it will house a car or truck.

The next sized storage unit, at 10 X 25 feet, is the approximate size of a standard one-car garage and will store all furnishings, including appliances from a two-bedroom home, along with a single automobile.

A 10 X 30 foot unit, with 300 square feet of space, will store the contents of a 40 foot moving van, which could include furniture from a three or four-bedroom home, along with appliances and a car, truck or boat.

A 12 X 30 foot storage unit will house 360 square feet of commercial inventory, construction materials or landscaping equipment, or the contents of a larger home. A 20 X 20 foot storage unit will hold the contents of an entire larger home.

Is there a time limit? In short, no, as the length of storage is ultimately up to the customer and their needs. Generally cheaper rates are offered to long-term storage customers. The terms commonly available include: – Long Term Storage (year by year is available at a discounted rate) – Seasonal Storage – Temporary Storage (a week to a month by month basis) – Secure Storage – Climate Controlled Self-Storage

How do I choose? Ring or email around. All storage facilities are able to give you a quote based on your needs and if you put in the time you will be sure to get the best deal. Also check about their security features to ensure your personal possessions are in safe hands.

There is some debate over whether or not cleaning the air ducts in your home is necessary. Most people don’t run into problems with their air ducts, but if there is a malfunction in your duct system or someone in your home has allergies, it can be a good idea to get them cleaned. It is extremely difficult for a person without the proper training to clean their own air ducts. As such, most people decide to hire a professional service for the job. As with any major repair job, it is important to choose a company that is reliable, knowledgeable and affordable.

The first step in your search for a good air duct cleaning company is simply to identify air duct cleaning companies in your local area. Depending on where you live, there may not be any nearby, so you may need to find one that is willing to make a trip. If you are lucky enough to have multiple companies that can do the job nearby, then it’s time to start looking at prices. It’s wise to get an idea about what sort of costs you should expect to pay to have your duct-work cleaned before you make any calls. The average amount for a duct cleaning will vary depending on the amount of duct-work to be cleaned and the level of service provided by the company. The average cost for cleaning your air ducts is between $500 and $1,000, though it can go higher or lower. You can call the various companies in your area and get rough estimates for how much they will charge. Some companies may also have websites that can provide estimates.

It is recommended that you get an on-site, written estimate by having the company visit your home before they start working. Then, you can ask them to show you the trouble spots in your air ducts that really need cleaning. If they can’t identify these spots and justify the cost of the cleaning, then you probably want to try another company or reconsider the cleaning entirely.

Now that you have gotten a better idea of what an air duct cleaning can do for you, it’s important to establish whether or not they can actually deliver on their promises. You may be able to ask the company for references from previous jobs that they’ve completed successfully. You might also be able to find reviews or testimonials online that can give you a better idea if the company does a good job and does it quickly.

Once you have checked out the duct cleaning companies credentials and reliability, then it is time to make your final choice. If the company charges by the hour, make sure that you get a written contract with them stating how long the job should take. You don’t want the cleaners to be able to stall to try and get more money. Once you’ve drawn up an agreement that works for both party, your work is done and it’s up to the cleaners to do their job.How to Select an Air Duct Cleaning Company

What is Geothermal Heating? Humans have been using geothermal power for heating purposes for centuries. This specific type of energy has been contained within the heat that lies in the core of the earth since the planet was formed. The heat comes from radioactive decay of minerals as well as from solar energy that is absorbed at the earths surface. Humans have figured out how to harvest this energy and put it to use in the form of heating. Typically, the heat is harvested near tectonic plate boundaries. In these regions, the ground as well as groundwater display temperatures higher than the target output.

A typical application involves a ground source heat pump underneath or near a home, that extracts the earths natural energy and transforms it into usable heating output.

What are the benefits? The chief benefit of using this type of heating system is energy conservation. In times when “going green” is the order of the day, this benefit is not to be taken lightly. Geothermal heating systems use up to 25% to 50% less electricity than conventional heating or cooling systems. Basically, this means that a geothermal heat pump uses one unit of electricity to extract three units of heat from the earth.

This natural form of heating can also help improve humidity control by maintaining about 50% relative indoor humidity, making geothermal heat pumps very helpful in humid climates.

Because these systems have no outdoor condensing units, like air conditioners have, you dont have to worry about a noisy apparatus outside your home.

How Does it Work? To understand how this type of heating system works, its important to understand its parts. A regular heat pump has an outdoor unit called condenser and an indoor unit thats called an evaporator coil. A material called a refrigerant transports the heat from one area to another. When compressed, it is a high temperature, high-pressure liquid. If it is allowed to expand, it transforms into a low temperature, low pressure gas. The gas then absorbs heat.

In the winter a regular heat pump system extracts heat from outdoor air and transfers it inside where it is circulated through your home’s ductwork by a fan.

Geothermal heat pumps are built on the same basic premise as regular heat pumps. The difference is that the geothermal type draws heat from the earth instead of from outdoor air. The heat from the earth is considered to be stable and even. In addition to providing heating for your home, this type of energy can also provide air conditioning and in most cases, hot water.

These geothermal heating pumps move heat from the earth into your house in the winter, and pull the heat from your home in the summer and move it into the ground by using a series of pipes. This series of pipes is called a “loop.” The loop is installed under the surface of the ground. Fluid travels through the loop, collecting heat from the ground (in the winter) and carries it to the house. There, an electrically driven compressor and a heat exchanger condense the Earth’s heat and discharge it inside the house at a higher temperature. Ductwork then disperses the heat to different rooms.

With air conditioning, the technique is reversed. The underground loop draws out surplus heat from the house and allows it to be absorbed by the Earth where it is then stored. The system cools your home in the same way that a refrigerator keeps your food cold – by pulling heat from the inside, not by blowing in cold air.

Knowing the solar energy pros and cons is one of the most important things in deciding whether or not you should buy this source of power. The uses for solar energy are nearly endless, some of the most practical uses are: generating electricity, central heating, hot water and cooking

Solar power comes from the sun. Solar energy is environmentally friendly. However, when the rays emitted from the sun enters earth’s atmosphere, it dilutes quite a bit

We’ll start with the cons. One big disadvantage is that you need the rays to make use of solar energy. If you are situated in a part of this beautiful planet where there is not much sun light then this could be a problem.

Your house roof may not be at a good angle for collecting solar energy, which would make installation on your roof less effective or in some cases, not possible. This can pose a big problem for those wishing to convert to solar energy.

There are many benifits in using solar energy too Electric heating is more expensive than solar energy. That is a big advantage of solar energy. By just using solar energy you can save a lot of money on heaters. In return you will get lower electric bills and it also means that you dont have to maintain heaters.

Solar energy is possibly the best solution if you live in a remote area with no power-lines. There are remote areas where power companies have no means to access your home. Cooking, heating, and electric problems are all solved with the usage of solar energy.

Electric heating is more expensive than solar energy. That is a big advantage of solar energy. Just by using solar energy, you can save a lot of money on heating bills. In return you will get lower electric bills and it also means that you dont have to maintain heaters.

Solar energy can be great for desalination of water, if you are in an area where fresh, drinkable water is scarce. Solar energy evaporates brine and leaves the salt crystals in the bottom of the basin. Water then condenses back into another basin, where it becomes drinkable.

Knowing the solar energy pros and cons is one of the most important things in deciding whether or not you should buy this source of power. There are many uses for solar energy, for example, it can be used for electricity, central heating, hot water, and cooking

Solar power comes from the sun. Solar energy is extremely helpful for the environment. However, sun rays dilute when it enters the earth’s atmosphere

We’ll start with the cons. The biggest disadvantage of solar power is that it is dilute. This means you have to have a lot of solar collectors installed around your house. Paying for solar energy may be very cheap, but buying the solar collectors are relatively expensive and require proper maintenance in order to work properly.

Sometimes, roofs on houses do not have a good angle for collecting sunlight, making your overall energy amount lower. This can pose a big problem for those wishing to convert to solar energy.

There are many benifits in using solar energy too Fuel costs are nowhere to be seen, since you use the sun’s energy, you won’t have to pay for costly fuels to keep your energy going This can shave off quite a hefty sum of money for your overall bill!

A big advantage of solar energy is that it is very clean. In order to produce heat or electricity to use with solar energy, you only need the sun’s rays. You don’t need to use harmful fossil fuels when using solar energy If you want to generate energy, all you need is a solar energy collector or solar power panels.

A great advantage is you’ll almost never run out of a source of energy This can shave off quite a hefty sum of money for your overall bill!

Desalination of water is a great use of solar energy if you are in an area where fresh water is scarce. Solar energy evaporates brine and leaves the salt crystals in the bottom of the basin. The water condenses back in another basin where it is now drinkable.

Organic bedding is so important for babies and toddlers. This is a time when their immune systems need the most support. Many children develop allergies this early in life because parents are not aware of the detrimental impact that toxic fibers have. Remember that babies spend most of their time on sheets and crib liners, breathing in linen fibers.

Organic bedding is so important for babies and toddlers. This is a time when their immune systems need the most support. Many children develop allergies this early in life because parents are not aware of the detrimental impact that toxic fibers make. Remember that babies spend most of their time on sheets and crib liners, breathing in linen fibers.

Always choose organic cotton and wool for your home, especially for those sleep times. Studies prove optimal sleeping conditions require breathable surfaces. Only organic bedding and natural sleepwear can provide that; in fact, recovering patients are far more comfortable, and heal better with non-toxic and chemical free organic bedding.

From the foods we eat to the linens we sleep on and the clothes we wear we want the highest result possible. It isn’t possible to be healthy while eating foods derived from abused animals, nor can we sleep on bedding created with chemically grown and sprayed elements. Those items are toxic

It isn’t possible to be healthy while eating foods derived from abused animals, nor can we sleep on bedding created with chemically grown and sprayed elements. Those items are toxic.

Be part of that huge and conscious movement now taking place that demands intelligent and conscientious care of animals and plants used for all uses. Once consumers rise up and demand that growers stop the use of pesticides and contaminants, they will be forced to provide what shoppers ask for. Believe me, they want you to buy from them. Soon organic prices will be reduced because people will search for easier and economical ways to grow without pesticides. A new era is emerging; be a part of that.
