One of the biggest questions that is asked by people that apply makeup on a regular basis is how often they should be cleaning their makeup brushes. The answer may be surprising to most while not surprising at all to others – You should clean your makeup brushes as often as possible.

There is no real right or wrong answer to this question, because your makeup brushes are not going to go stale or anything if they pass a certain date, but when you have dirty makeup brushes, dirty powder puffs and dirty sponges, you should realize that a lot of bacteria has been accumulated. Even if you apply makeup after you cleanse, your skin will still have some sort of oil, adding even more bacteria to the tools. If you don’t clean your tools on a regular basis, they are not all together very good for your skin.

In many cases, some makeup application tools like powder puffs and sponges are simply disposable, and so you can simply replace them as needed. Puffs and sponges typically do not dry out very well after they are cleaned and so it would be simpler and more cost effective for you to simply replace them as needed. The same is not true for your cosmetic brushes however, especially if you are working with a quality caliber set.

A dirty makeup brush is going to be not only unhygienic and bad for your skin in general, but also much more likely to worsen breakouts and rashes and other skin issues or to cause more in general. What this means is that you are going to want to clean your makeup brushes fairly regularly in order to remove the build up of makeup, oil, skin cells and bacteria. For most people who apply makeup casually from day to day, cleaning all of your makeup brushes once every two to four weeks is generally going to suffice. If you apply makeup much more often or if you are reapplying several times on a daily basis, then it would be wise for you to step this schedule up a bit, cleaning your brushes weekly or at least biweekly.

There are a number of different brush cleaning options that are available on the market. There are two excellent brands of makeup cleaners that are well worth bringing up, which are Pink Soap and Master Brush Cleaner. Both of them are capable of cleaning your brushes really well and rinsing out easily. You are going to find them in any high quality art supply store or cosmetic store.

It is also possible for you to simply use a high quality organic shampoo product. Make sure that you allow the brushes ample time to air dry. It is not recommended that you use artificial means to speed up the drying process because heat can damage your brushes in the same way that it can damage your own hair. Heat may also cause the glue binding the brushes to their handles to melt, which can cause the brushes to fall apart or otherwise become destroyed.

Jurlique Skin Care Products are extremely well known amongst luxury skin products. Created by a horticulturalist and a chemist, the product was one of the very first natural and organic skin care products in the world and the farm system that was utilized to harvest the products required to create this skin care product line is completely sustainable. Long before everyone began talking about green manufacturing and natural organic products, the Jurlique Skin Care Products were being manufactured in a completely organic manner with all natural ingredients. Made from rosemary, marshmallow, chamomile, lavender and calendula, the South Australian farm where the materials were grown for these skin care products started out from is today a thing of legend.

As more and more individuals jump on the organic and naturally created band wagon, there are many pretenders to the throne. Unfortunately, even those products that claim to be natural and organic are usually not even remotely as well manufactured nor do they feature the quality ingredients that Jurlique Skin Care Products offers. Despite all the competition, no one product has yet come close to dethroning the original skin care line that has grown to such epic proportion.

With a tremendous amount of farmland, 95% of the herbs utilized in the skin care products are grown on the Jurlique Skin Care Products farm. All of these herbs and ingredients are grown organic and biodynamic, creating a highly suitable environment for the infusion of natural energy into the skin care products. As more and more consumers begin to learn about the extremely popular skin care products from Australia, there are more department stores that carry these products where they can be readily found by an adoring public. While it has been very difficult to find over the years, in the modern-day, is not nearly as difficult providing that you’re willing to make an effort to purchase these products. Of course, all of the Jurlique Skin Care Products are available on the Internet at reasonable prices, taking the difficulty out of scouring your local department store for these types of products.

As organic and biodynamic products get more and more attention in the modern-day, it is very likely that you will see more of these types of skin care products that eliminate chemicals and non-organically sourced products. Oddly enough, there are far more chemically enhanced products on the market than there are green, biodynamic and organic products. Despite this, there is a steady increase in the production of natural products and an effort by consumers to seek out these types of skin care products infused with nature’s energy. By utilizing completely organic and biodynamic Jurlique Skin Care Products, you can eliminate much of the irritation and skin reactions that can come from other types of chemical-based products.

In the future, these types of Jurlique Skin Care Products will very likely continue to sell like hotcakes and increase in popularity. As more and more individuals find out about the excellent results of the use of naturally infused products, there is no reason to think that their popularity will go anywhere but up.

Jurlique skin care contains hypoallergenic ingredients that are ideal for people with sensitive skin. By gently cleansing, it serves to shield the skin. Dr Hauschka skin care is also a great complement for mineral makeup. As makeup is applied on flawless skin, it allows an individual to have a radiant glow.

The effort to protect your hands during Summer cannot be taken seriously enough. With the ultraviolet radiation and solar energy beating down from the sky, there is all manner of difficulty with keeping your hands from cracking and flaking in summer weather. By making the effort to protect your hands during the summer weather, you can ensure that you age gracefully and that you do not begin to show liver spots and other signs of skin damage on your hands.

Keep in mind that your hands are one of the most exposed parts of your body, and they see a tremendous amount of sunlight and activity. In addition to all this exposure to the weather, you also use your hands to touch everything you come into contact with. This means all manner of materials that can cause dryness, cracking and flaking.

Fortunately, it is not too difficult to protect your hands from the summer weather and activities. By utilizing good hand creams that provide ultraviolet radiation protection and strong moisturizing properties, you can protect your hands from both the summer weather and from any activities that you might get into. Considering all the sand and salt water that you might come across, it only makes sense that you would need some significant amount of moisturizer to combat the cracking and flaking that these types of activities and weather can cause.

Naturally, you will want to pick up a high quality hand cream with UV protection for your hands. Generally, the directions will say to reapply every so often. As a rule of thumb, you should reapply significantly more frequently than the label recommends. The reason for this is that if you’re active, you can rub much of the hand cream off of your hands in the course of day-to-day activities. Just like sunbathing, you should reapply as often as you possibly can in order to ensure that you do not damage your skin.

While protecting your hands during Summer might seem like it requires gloves, just utilizing a good hand cream with some decent UV protection can make all the difference in the world. Constant reapplication of your hand cream is all that is required to protect you. Unfortunately, very few people make the effort to make significant use of a good hand cream with UV protection, causing all manner of skin damage to hands in summer weather. It is important to keep in mind that any damage that occurs in your younger years will become significantly and noticeably worse in your order years. As you age, the skin damage will become more and more noticeable until it is visibly unsightly. Unless you would like to show off some brown and weathered hands in your elder years, it is a good idea to take a timeout to protect your skin from the sun and from the damage from the environment with a good moisturizing hand cream with UV protection.

While everyone has their favorite hand creams, it is important to make sure that the hand cream you use in order to protect your hands during Summer has a UV blocker and plenty of moisturizer. The higher the SPF rating, the better off you will be. With this effort to use a moisturizing cream with a UV protection level, you can work wonders for the health of your skin in the years to come.

During the summer days, it is absolutely vital to use zinc oxide sunscreens and hand creams to prevent the skin from damages. While hand creams nourish dry hands during the summer, one should also utilize natural cosmetics; it protects it from the sun and delivers a healthy appeal.

For many people with sensitive skin, the question of how to heal chapped lips has caused them all manner of difficulty, sometimes throughout their entire life. Suffering due to the difficulty and discomfort of chapped lips, not to mention the unsightly appearance that having chapped lips can give you, can be a tremendous burden to bear. In many cases, people can suffer from severely chapped lips without ever realizing that the lip balms and other soothing products are not working fully well enough in order to provide them with the relief that they need.

The best lip balms for healing chapped lips are generally those that are made organically. The added extras tend to be unnecessary and cause all manner of havoc with the moisturizing and healing process. By doing away with the unnatural additives and the products that you simply don’t need, you can increase the chance of your lips healing on their own, growing back the skin and eliminating the painful effects of having chapped lips. Only with the organic lip balms and products can you hope to get the full benefit of protecting your lips with a superior product.

Although many commercial and retail lip balms claim to be superior and extremely useful, the truth is that very few of them are as effective as what they claim. By seeking out products that are made with organic components, you can ensure that you have no problems beating the problem at its root, meaning that treating the problem and not the symptoms is what is going to cure your chapped lips. By moisturizing deeply within the tissues of your lips, organic lip balms do the job that commercially available lip balms can’t do. If you have ever seen a tube of lip balm product at the checkout at your grocery store, you very likely have seen a good example of a lip balm that is filled with all manner of chemicals and unnecessary byproducts. By using only the organic lip balms that are available, you can ensure that you are not putting anything on your lips that isn’t absolutely necessary.

This focus on avoiding unnecessary additives and looking for organic products is a good way to promote the healing of your lips and keep them from cracking and flaking during bad weather or during certain seasons. Some people are afflicted far worse than others, making it more necessary for certain individuals to utilize organic lip balms on a regular basis. Even for those who rarely use these types of products, the use of a natural, organic lip balm is far more effective and less harmful to your body than the commercially available retail products.

Whether you have a problem with how to heal chapped lips on a regular basis, or only in certain types of weather, it only makes sense to look into organic lip balm in order to eliminate the difficulties that you may have had with the store-bought products available in the past. With the wide availability of organic lip balms, there is no reason that you shouldn’t be able to find the product that you require to relieve your pain and suffering.

The nutrient-rich lip balms are great complements for natural makeup, allowing an individual to attain a radiant glow. Besides healing chapped lips, obtaining immediate relief for aching muscles is also unquestionable. Massage oils detoxify the skin, softening the body and provides a long-lasting protection.

Making businesses aware of how effective and efficient Green advertising is, will be difficult because a lot of companies are stuck in their old ways. It is difficult to change businesses and individuals behavior, because they dont like change and they are comfortable with the advertisement they have now. What people dont realize or want to acknowledge is how much junk mail effects our environment or how it pollutes our air and land. Green advertising can eliminate paper, plastic, air and water pollution, because most people dont realize how destructive this advertising is on the environment and to our own health.

Virtually every U.S. citizen is affected by an endless stream of unwanted advertising or “junk” mail delivered by the United States Postal Service (USPS). Junk mail can be defined as unsolicited promotional mail that is unwanted. Junk mail is most often, but not always, third class mail sent via bulk rates. This article details some of the known environmental impacts of junk mail. The article also discusses several legal issues concerning junk mail, focusing on privacy and fairness. Finally, areas of study to investigate which could hopefully solve the problem are proposed.

The Effects on the environment of junk mail are quite large. In 1991, 62 million trees had been cut down for junk mail. More than 74,000 acres of trees were cut just for catalogs, in 1989, 63.7 billion pieces were sent, also 55 billion catalogs. This 7.4 billion represents pound of junk mail. Pulp processing to make paper for junk mail requires 25 billion gallons of water.

An average of 41 pounds is sent to each adult, 44 percent goes unread directly into the garbage, and 93 percent of junk mail will be discarded ultimately. Americans spend more than 275 million to dispose of junk mail. A marketing professor for New York University in one year received 601 catalogs, including 26 catalogs from American Express and 24 catalogs from L.L. Bean.

Junk mail is not very recyclable. In 1990, only 200,000 tons out of 3.8 million tons of junk mail were recycled. Workers at a N.J. mill must sort from junk mail all the “shampoo samples, watches, T-shirts, tea bags and other surprises that don’t make good paper.” Heavy metals in colored inks do not degrade and eventually re-enter the environment. The Direct Marketing Association (DMA) claims trees are renewable, and argues “We see the real issue as landfills.” Junk mail is an estimated two percent of municipal solid waste.

There is an environmental impact simply mailing all this mail around, primarily via motor vehicles. Mail trucks operate inefficiently, making constant starts and stops. After delivery, junk mail must still make at least one more trip to a landfill, incinerator, or recycling center.

The environmental force of ceaseless advertising of consumer products is the making of a materialistic culture in which possession of consumer goods replaces human social exchanges and spiritual improvement. There is no end to this materialistic spiral. People who define themselves by what they own will always desire that one new product, or replacements for all their old products, placing a constant demand on the environment. Materialism isolates a person from each other, which leaves them to entertain themselves with their things, rather than engaging in constructive community-building.

Privacy issues are major distresses with junk mail, to a normal individual. In July 1992, at least 2.5 million people had requested the DMAs Mail Preference Service, which will remove an individuals name from national direct mail listings. The New York Telephone Co. in May 1990 asked 6.3 million people if they wanted to remove their names from a list that it wanted to rent, and 800,000 responded in a positive way.

Businesses will pay more for unlisted phone numbers. More than half of the residential telephone numbers in California are unlisted. Objections to telephone solicitations led to passage of the Telephone Consumer Protection Act of 1991. This act restricts solicitors from calling somebody who asked not to be called again, and requires solicitors to keep a list of those requesting not to be contacted.

Businesses must start utilizing Green Advertising to lower their carbon footprint, and to give their company maximum spotlight. Translucent Advertising is a non-traditional Green Advertising company, that has a large network of brick and mortar stores for companies to advertise in. Translucent Advertising gives a business the option to grow their client base in their target market areas.

To become a Green business requires more than token efforts. There are literally hundreds of Green solutions that should be applied to any business operation, and yet most self-acclaimed Green businesses apply only a few modest Green ideas. Paper is one of the core issues of any Green business, and yet little has been literally done to address paper concerns in a business.

To set the stage, it is helpful to understand that paper and paper products make up 36% of municipal solid waste. When looking at the life cycle analysis of paper, it is necessary to consider that the largest percentage of what we are shoving into the landfills is paper. This brings us to two solutions on the downstream side of the issue. One is reducing our demand for paper and better ways to recycle rather than throwing paper in the trash.

There are the simple ideas of printing on both sides of the page or buying recycled paper. Some would suggest using the phone instead of mailing a letter. Others want us to increase the margins on our word process. These small changes do add up, but it seems that we are still ignoring the larger, more practical solutions for reducing paper use.

The upstream concerns of paper manufacture often starts with the harvesting of trees that are eventually turning into wood pulp. The process is something that is easily investigated, but the chemicals used are not mild. One of the most problematic is the chlorine that is used to bleach the paper to a bright white color.

Waste water from pulp and paper factories is again another unreported issue. The waste water is a mixture of various toxic chemicals such as Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs). VOCs are also commonly found in the making of shoes and the installation of carpets. When considering this, a paper making could not be considered a Green business. The downstream impact of the waste created by paper brings the concerned individual to the unmistakable conclusion is that paper use is a serious environmental issue and one that could be tremendously improved.

The paper industry creates air pollutants that contain carbon dioxide, nitrous oxides, sulfur dioxides, carbon monoxide, ammonia, VOCs, and minute particles like dust and ash. With every thing considered, paper making could not be considered, paper making could not be a Green business. The downstream impact of wasted created by the paper inustry brings everyone to the unmistakable conculsion that paper use is a serious environmental problem and one that could be tremendously improved.

Most of paper reduction strategies involve printing both side of paper, copying less, stopping magazines and junk mail. Some companies are asking their employees to increase the use of email. No one should ignore the importance of using recycled paper in the daily office operation. There are dozens of easy-to-apply ideas. Nevertheless, a very efficient solution seems to have eluded the environmentally-astute organizations like the NRDC. The new solution is the paperless office that works to eliminate paper use in the office.

The paperless system often includes: 1)Virtual meeting services that will solve travel and wasted time, 2) Software programs, such as accounting, billing and payroll, 3) Replacing fax machines with online services that can turn faxes into emails with a push of a button, 4) Document storage and retrieval programs.

The main problem with all of these Green solutions is that they require a ramp up time during installation. These new innovations also can require training of the employees to a new system. The beginning transition is a reality, but the results are enormous. Installing these paperless systems in your business will ultimately reduce paper use, decrease paper waste, and it will speed up the average office. The savings realized are not just in paper costs, but worker costs. Ultimately, fewer workers will actually do more work. Streamlining a business has a number of benefits. One positive response will come from customers who receive fast and correct responses to their exploration.

To earn a Green Business there need be a proven, trust worthy, and authentic certification. There is an vast amount of greenwashing, green hype, and green lies that Green businesses need be avoid. Green businesses can do this by being certified through Green Business League, which is a nationally recognized authority. Keep in mind, Green businesses are earned not buy.

Over time, drains and sewers, like all of us get older and in time will deteriorate and get worse. Walls can collapse, blockages can occur and the result is that you get drainage problems. The cause can be things like ground movement, intrusion from things like tree roots or it could be that the drains are simply badly constructed in the first place.better to know rather than guess at the root cause of problems underground

The simple fact is that you cannot tell from above ground exactly what is going on with a drain that is underground. You need to know exactly what is going on- where the blockage is happening for example, so the best solution can be found. Blockages can be from many causes, organic or otherwise, they need to be removed and quickly so that problems don’t worsen

Once you know that you have a drainage problem, there are a couple of ways that you can diagnose the problem. Using CCTV, there are two systems available to you. These are the push rod and also available is the crawler system. The push rod and the crawler system are both available through reputable drainage specialist- better perhaps to know that they are available so you can ask your drainage contractor which they carry. They should carry both systems

The crawler system is used for drainage pipes over 150mm in diameter. Smaller drainage systems (less than 150mm) are diagnosed using the push rod system. Full, detailed reports are then compiled to show exactly what is wrong with the drain so you can then decide what is the best method of solving the drainage problem

An experienced CCTV operator will look out for a variety of problems. Collapsed drains can look remarkably similar to blocked drains and the two problems may need to be tackled in different ways. Tree roots can be seen through the camera lens. Surveys can be written up into a document and then written to a DVD so that they can be stored and recalled easily in the future

If you are planning to build and extension to a property, CCTV can be used for a build over survey. Basically, this is a survey of the drainage condition underground so that you can see the condition before building over them. If you bury a problem, it will be much more expensive in the future should problems arise in the future

If you get home and find out that you have a blocked drain then the there is always a cause for this problem. The first thing you need to do to save you time and money is to get a professional in to unblock the drain and then do a CCTV drain camera survey to find out what and where the problem is. Next we need to find the most suitable way to fix the problem that the CCTV survey has shown if any of course as sometimes things like wet wipes can block drains. Assuming the drain report has shown a problem we then need to work out how to fix it i.e if its collapsed it will have to be excavated , if it has root intrusion they will have to be cut out then patched and if it is grease or fat it will have to be cleaned with a high pressure water jetter

Root intrusion in to the drainage system always and up with the same result a blockage and when left to get out of control can even cause your pipe to collapse. If you think you have this problem again get a cctv drain camera survey to check .If there are roots the survey will pin point where the roots are. Next a drainage professional will cut the roots out the the aid of a root cutter on the end of a high pressure water jetting hose which will gently cut the intruding roots out. Then they should really patch the affected area to stop the roots grow back. You dont have to do this but it is really false economy as in a few months the roots will grow back and your drain will block again

One of the most common drainage repairs required is to cure a collapsed or cracked drain. A collapse can occur due to the old pipe cracking due to a heavy weight placed above ground or just general age. Drains may crack and joints open up resulting from ground movement, water infiltration, root ingress or vehicular traffic. The only solution in the past has been to locate the defective area and repair the pipe after excavating to expose the drain

It is not unheard of for foreign objects to be accidentally dropped down drainage systems especially on new build sites if man hole covers are left of during construction. I have seen all sorts of things down there including stones, wood and even work mens tools. Another favorite to be left down drains is drain rods, they normally come apart when people try to unblock their own drains instead of calling in the professionals. These obstructions can normally be removed with a high pressure water jetting machine but in more stubborn cases the drain can have to be dug up and replaced with new

This is a very cost effective, time saving and stress free product. No Dig Technology allows you to fix cracks, open joints and root ingress from within the pipe saving the stress, hassle and back ache of digging up a clients patio or lawn. We use a product made by Fernco but there are others on the market. Basically you measure in the pipe as to where the defect is by using a cctv drain camera. Then place the mating on the floor and fold as instructed, next spread the resin over the mat and wrap around the rubber inflatable packer. Push the packer down the drain to the defect and inflate using an air compressor. Leave to set and pull the packer out. The mat is left down the drain leaving a perfectly smooth patch covering the old defect

There are certain times when you have to excavate to get to the affected piece of pipe for example when a drain has collapsed you physically cant get a packer through the pipe to patch it. What you do is carefully remove the top layer of grass or patio slabs and store them safely ready for reinstating. Next you dig down to the defective area and cut out and replace the piece of pipe using slip collars to refit the new piece. Sometimes you might be cutting out a piece of clay pipe and replacing with pvc. The clay pipe is thicker than the pvc but that is not a problem as you can buy clay to pvc collars. Once the new pipe is instated cover the pipe with small chippings then backfill with what was excavated. Last but not least place back the grass or patio slabs to make the top layer as good as new

Unquestionably, and then water is the most reasonable inexpensive and widely available substitute solution to the rising gas prices in the market today. Though in it’s regular form water is definitely any sort of energy source to start with, when a proper process is utilized it could be the best source of hydrogen – a superb element that is capable of replacing fossil fuels to power automobiles and perhaps even generate energy like heat, along with it’s counterpart, electricity.

For the concept various studies have been funded to research on the possibility of water for possibly providing an alternate source of fuel and energy, which has indeed proven itself to be extremely helpful and revolutionary. In fact, the technology to make a car run on water is actually old tech and has been a patented concept for many years now, and has managed to evolve to the creation and invention of fuel saving devices that either make use of a little electric power from the battery to separate water into a gas known as HHO also known as Brown’s Gas or oxyhydrogen.

The finding of Brown’s Gas or HHO has been know for some time but it was only recently that it was noted as a source of energy that can make cars run – and the main source of HHO is water. Brown’s Gas burns well and gives off a lot of energy amounting to the equivalent of gasoline with an even better environmentally safe by-product – H2O. A normal engine that burns regular gas fuel, mileage is relative only to the amount of gas the engine needs to operate on whatever is burned and in the end being incombustible fuel, meaning less mileage and much energy ends up wasted in the form of heat. There are many who are not aware but Brown’s Gas or HHO is very powerful, since it has the atomic power of hydrogen and the stability of water making it three times more potent and powerful than gasoline.

The United States government has recently posed a challenge to US citizens to drive hydrogen-powered cars as soon as possible and has reserved well over a billion dollars for research into how it can be done. From that challenge gave birth to many processes that have been brought to the publics attention – some which are very effective some nothing but a mere scheme to bait gullible people. Though regardless of the motives, good or bad there are in fact many different methods on breaking down of ordinary water into oxygen and hydrogen.

It’s good to know that one does not have to spend much to make your vehicle to use water to gas technology, since, as amazing as it sounds it doesn’t cost an excessive amount of money to develop. That becomes possible because modern engines in our cars can deal with these processes with very few modifications to the system.

But how does the water to gas system function? It starts with the concept that everyday water is a batter that contains a lot of energy – especially hydrogen energy. Water is actually two parts hydrogen combined with one part oxygen, so it can only be speculated how it carries so much energy and has absolutely nothing to do to the actual amount of energy it requires to break down the molecule. Water to gas is, definitely a good program [that needs a lot of research] but really, who can tell it could still have the key to the current oil price hike quandary.

by Weldon Solis

The FDA’s latest findings that electronic cigarettes are unsafe have gained a flurry of attention from nicotine replacement therapy (NRT) advocates who say the already FDA approved NRTs pose the same risks. Worse yet are the recent side-effect warnings the FDA are enforcing be placed on popular drugs Chantix and Zyban that users are at high risk of depression, suicidal thoughts, and hostility. Smokers looking to quit have a right to be upset about the FDA trying to ban electronic cigarettes.

Concerns are beginning to rise that perhaps the FDA is not conducting these tests on electronic cigarettes with the health of the general public in mind. Why is the FDA measuring the safety of these unapproved NRTs to regular health standards instead of contrasting it to the dangers posed by smoking traditional tobacco cigarettes?

One chemical the FDA’s tests pulled out of an electronic cigarette replacement cartridge was Diethylene Glycol. I did some digging on this instead of buying directly into the FDA’s press release. The Health New Zealand study did not test for the substance. This is likely due to the fact they were testing against known carcinogens found in tobacco and the manufacturer ingredient list. Adverse effects of Diethylene Glycol, as reported by its MSDS, are lesions and other forms of damage to the liver and kidneys.

In the case of inhalation, the only first aid recommended is removal from the source to fresh air. Toxicalogical information for Diethylene Glycol shows that it is not a known carcinogen, nor is it expected to be found as one in the future. In addition, the dose required to kill half of the sample of rats tested is 12.565 g/kg and 11.89 g/kg for rabbits. Assuming this can be extended to humans, an average adult male would have to ingest 855.925 g to receive a lethal dose.

Now what about the FDA’s comparison of Diethylene Glycol to the general public as the main ingredient in antifreeze? The EPA gives these statements on variations of antifreeze: “Some propylene glycol based antifreezes are less toxic to pets and humans, but antifreeze typically contains ethylene glycol as its active ingredient. Short-term toxicity is substantially lower in propylene glycol than that of ethylene glycol, especially in the case of human exposure.”

Either way, no matter which ingredient is active in the suspension, the stigma of antifreeze being dangerous actually comes from the fact that it is often disposed of improperly. This is only important because during service and use of the product, heavy metals contaminate the fluid (particularly dangerous is the lead contained in the metals). Yes, straight antifreeze is toxic, but its active ingredient is Ethylene Glycol and the main hazard stems from the heavy metals absorbed in used, recycled, or improperly discarded antifreeze.

Although DG was found non-carcinogenic, there was a trace amount of tobacco specific nitrosamines (TSNAs, carcinogens) found in 1 of the 18 cartridges tested by the FDA. This was not a new finding, as the Health New Zealand report did test for TSNAs and stated clearly that these were to be expected with any solution that derives its nicotine from the tobacco plant, and of course the amount of TSNAs would increase with the amount of nicotine contained in the cartridge. On average, electronic cigarette cartridges contain 3.928Ng (also knows as parts per billion [ppb]).

The specific listing is as follows: Nitrosamines In Cartridges: 0mg ” 0.260 Ng (ppb), 6mg ” 3.068 Ng, 11mg ” 4.200 Ng, 16mg ” 8.183Ng. As indicated above, the cartridge with the highest nicotine volume contained the highest level of TSNAs. What is significant about this is that by comparison, the FDA approved NRT Nicorette Gum contains 8Ng (the same as that of the highest strength nicotine cartridge). Putting this number further in comparison, tobacco cigarettes contain approximately 1,230ppb TSNAs before burning, and moist snuff pulls in between 1,000 and 2,400ppb.

Thinking back now to our original question, “Does the FDA have the public’s health in mind during their testing?” seems to take on a new light. It becomes increasingly apparent that perhaps their bigger concern is that a NRT device has hit the market that is very effective, just as safe as currently approved NRTs, but doesn’t line their pockets.
