Cardboard balers for recycling will not only save the environment; they will also help to save a company time and money with their waste disposal company.

Cardboard is the number one packing material used in commercial shipping today and it is estimated at approximately $18 billion in business each year. North America ships the most products in cardboard or corrugated boxes and it’s estimated at 90 percent of all shipments to this region to be in cardboard boxes.

Since there is such a high percentage of cardboard boxes’ being shipped throughout the county, it would not surprise anyone that the most significant amount of waste that ends up in the landfills around the world is produced by OCC or old corrugated cardboard. This is a good reason to invest in a baler for recycling cardboard boxes and inserts.

Many businesses, restaurants and shops that receive goods in cardboard boxes simply throw them away in the dumpster and when there is no more room, which is when they think to flatten them for more space.

Recycled cardboard boxes and inserts could be a source of revenue for many businesses if they shop around for a good waste management company that has a big demand for old corrugated cardboard.

An additional benefit of recycling cardboard boxes is that it frees up space for inventory and other equipment or machinery that may be needed. Cardboard that is flattened and placed in a recycling baler will help to promote a safer work environment because employees are not walking over cardboard boxes on the floor to get to the back door in addition to lessening the risk for a potential fire hazard.

Balers for cardboard need to be operated by employees who are over 18 years old and have gone through proper training on how to safely operate this type of heavy machinery. The reasoning behind the minimum age requirement is because of the maturity level of someone who is 18 years old verses someone who is 16 and might ‘horseplay’ around with the heavy machinery. In addition, many facilities require cardboard bale operators to wear safety goggles and heavy-duty gloves for maximum protection.

A bale for recycling cardboard boxes could be found in grocery stores, large shopping centers, in the basement of a large office building to be shared with many smaller businesses and offices and in hospitals and school district buildings.

There are several different size of balers for cardboard recycling, mainly small and some are even portable. There are also medium, large and extra large sizes. Some of the bigger stores like the super center style shopping facilities typically have several balers for their cardboard boxes, signs and inserts.

Many consumers want to go green and would like to know that their supermarket, furniture store or big box store is helping the environment by not contributing to the growing waste in the landfills with cardboard boxes, that they are using cardboard balers for recycling in order to make the planet a better place for their customers, employees and everyone on earth

Search for some e-waste recycling programs in your area and find out what the stance is for e-waste is. E-waste can be controlled and disposed of properly if everyone works together. You may be able to find a useful amount of this type of information from your local listings or also the internet.

Canada has been a good example of how important it is to be concerned about e-waste recycling or electronic waste. Hazardous materials such as lead and mercury can be found in cell phones, computers, and many other electronics. Because of this, it means that these electronics cannot properly be disposed of in a landfill. If they are, then the toxic waste can leak out and begin to effect the environment.

Canada has always taken action in disposing of e-waste, though this hasn’t always been via the use of recycling. While recycling has been used in the past, it was not the most popular action taken. For instance, in 2002, there was 157,000 metric tons of e-waste that was disposed of. In consideration of that statistic, 9,000 metric tons of that e-waste was recycled. In addition, it has been estimated that the waste disposal will rise to 206,000 metric tons just in 2010.

The main purpose out of all of this concern is to keep these types of waste out of the landfills. When e-waste is not properly disposed of, it can have disastrous effects on the environment around us and also make many people ill as a result. To prevent this from occurring, it is important to dispose of such waste properly. This can be done at many of the drop off points that are offered in Canada.

However, it should be understood that not everyone knows about e-waste and recycling. There is still a large majority of society that does not know about the importance of recycling electronics, or that it is even possible. To make an effort to change this, there need to be programs that will encourage the people to recycle their e-waste.

In Canada, there are many of these type of non-profit organizations already available. Largely, there are programs that focus on the proper recycling of batteries and cell phones. However, there are other programs that will work to recycle various types of electronics and help to promote and educate the public about these options. By getting in contact with organizations like these, people can learn more about e-waste recycling and what they can do to take part in it themselves.

Companies are also becoming very concerned about e-waste. Some companies are even developing programs to help contribute to recycling. In Canada, some corporations have created recycling programs. People that have previously purchased any products that they no longer use can send them back to the corporation for recycling. This effort has caused other companies to take similar steps to help promote e-waste recycling.

There is still much to be done with concerns on e-waste and recycling. Canada has made many efforts to encourage their society to reduce the amount of e-waste that is not properly disposed of every year. Yet, there are still numerous individuals that do not know about the risks and problems that e-waste can cause if it is not recycled. For this reason, it seems that those who do know about the importance of this issue should educate and share this information with others to further prevent the spreading of risk.

If you are concerned about e-waste recycling electronic waste, there are also steps that you can take on your own.

Search for some e-waste recycling programs in your area and find out what the stance is for e-waste is. After you have found a program that you can work with, share it with those that you know

Some environmentally friendly things are part of recycling in the city. It may not seem like it is worth it but it is more important than ever in a city atmosphere to recycle. This can not only help you make a conscious effort to be green but it can make your city a greener place to live.

Recycling helps create jobs too for your city sanitation department. You can be a part of making sure that those workers who are hired to collect recycled materials remain employed as long as they have a route to pick up. If the route diminishes so does the job. There are also more workers performing tasks at plants as well.

It is easy to recycle in a city environment. No matter where you live there is a situation that will help make it easy for you. This means whether you live in a home or an apartment there are options available to you. Many options make it very easy to jump aboard the green train and do your part to save the earth.

Home: Many disposal companies run by a city offer a recycling program to encourage home owners to recycle. When you move in they will deliver to you special bins that you can use for specific materials in each bin. This makes it convenient for you. When you call for service to begin ask for the bins. This includes yard waste as well and often the will have a sticker with a special pick up day for the waster.

Apartment: Many green conscious apartment complexes have containers that will be available near a trash receptacle that are specifically for recycled materials. This way you can separate certain items and dispose of them in these bins. Privately owned condos are beginning to work together to achieve this goal as well.

If you live in an apartment that does not offer recycling you still can do it. Many container stores have recycle bins that are available to use on your patio or a similar area. You can collect the material and then take it to a local donation center or to the dump yourself for extra cash. This is also a good project for children and they can be learning how important recycling really is.

More and more larger cities are also offering recycling bins on their city streets. These cities are encouraging their citizens to recycle wherever they are. Some public businesses also are encouraging recycling on their premises and this can encourage the people who shop or eat there to recycle.

Look around the city where you live and see the opportunities that are available to you for recycling. This is also an opportunity for you to start a recycling program in your building if there is not one. There may be people who are also interested in a program and you can work together. If everyone works together and makes just a little effort we can reduce waste and reuse certain materials for other products.

The largest environmental polluters in today’s world are industrial corporations. Most of the global environmental issues which are regularly in the news are a result of manufacturer’s irresponsible waste management. Extensive disposal of chemical toxins and medical rubbish in the oceans and unrestricted noxious atmospheric pollution, such as carbon monoxide, are the main cause of the current ecological crisis. This is the main reason why industrial corporations should make heavy use of compaction and recycling equipment.

Everybody produces waste; consumer households, small businesses and governments but the industrial corporations create the majority along with toxic by-products and greenhouse gasses and need to take action. Waste management can be defined as the processing, collection, transport, recycling or disposal, and monitoring of waste materials. Waste management techniques are mostly undertaken to diminish the consequences of waste on health and the environment.

Developed countries such as America and most of the European countries now have a code of behaviour for waste management but much of the developing and more populated countries around the world have no regulations regarding the environment at all. Those nations which have mandatory environmental waste policies also tend to concentrate more on small household and local recycling than corporate industrial recycling of rubbish. Nevertheless large industrial corporations should implement best practice waste recycling and compaction policies on their own without government intervention.

The primary cost of putting compaction and recycling equipment in place may be high, but these firms need to take into account the long-term benefits that they will receive. By using compaction and recycling equipment for their industrial waste they can get rid of the cost of clearance by eliminating their landfill placement requirements, and potentially produce more raw materials for their manufacturing uses in the future.

Additionally, if a company chooses to recycle they could increase their business as customers who know and respect the company’s recycling policy buy from them rather than from the competition who do not endorse compaction and recycling. These days being environmentally friendly is extremely trendy and companies that implement a recycling program can only create positive publicity which in turn can create more business for the clever, conscientious and up-to-date firm.

Industrial firms with strategic long-term vision always tend to do better than companies with outdated views.

Currently using environmentally friendly schemes such as compaction to reduce waste and recycling is advocated to avoid ecological disaster. This means that industrial companies need to evolve accordingly to guarantee their long-term success. Inflexibility and unwillingness to use new and advanced technologies and equipment will prevent these firms from being able to sustain themselves in the future.

Industrial companies must take the initiative and implement greener waste management schemes to reduce or recycle their waste products in order to avoid being penalised and eventually maybe going out of business. The most realistic way to do this is by investing in the compaction and recycling equipment available on the market today, which will enable them to enjoy a cleaner, enhanced and increasingly productive future.

Energy conservation in the home isn’t just about saving money, it’s about saving to the planet too. If we all did our bit to reduce our carbon footprint, even just a little, it would have a signifcant effect on planet for future generations. Below are some top tips on reducing power consumption and saving money!

Tip 1 – Color of wall paint. Using dark interior wall paint actually absorbs more light. This means you have to use more lighting and energy to achieve the same effect. Using light colors will make the room naturally brighter – and more cheerful!

Tip 2 – An Energy Efficient Dish Washer . A dishwasher that is 90% full uses 4 units of electricity. If it is only 50% full, it still uses 3 units of electricity. Therefore, try to fill your dishwasher as much as possible before using it.

Tip 3 – Insulate your Water Heater. Buy a water heater blanket and keep your water heater insulated. You’ll save around $40 per year. Water heater insulation blankets are designed for gas, oil or electric heaters and are relatively inexpensive.

Tip 4 – Energy Efficient Light Bulbs. Replacing a single incandescent bulb with an energy efficient fluorescent bulb can atcually save up to $50 over the bulb’s lifetime. If every home in the US swapped 1 incandescent bulb for a fluorescent bulb, there would be enough energy saved to power 2.5 Million homes!

Tip 5 – Reduce Heat loss through Windows. Up to 16% of household heating can be lost through unprotected windows. The heat loss can be reduced by closing drapes at night or installing insulating shutters. If you home has large windows which don’t generally receive direct sunlight, try keeping the curtains/drapes over these windows closed as much as possible.

Tip 6 – Use Smart Power Strips. An amazing 75% of electricity used by household electronics is consumed while applicances are “off”. If you use a power strip and turn it off when not in use, you can significantly lessen your CO2 emissions and reduce your energy bill.

Tip 7 – Choose Energy Efficient Washing Machines. When you’re choosing your next washing machine, choose one which is front-loading. On average, front-loading washing machines use 25% less energy. Also selecting a cold/warm cycle instead of a warm/hot cycle can save 10 cents per load.

Tip 8 – Clean Air Conditioning Filters Regularly. Cleaning or, if neccesary replacing your AC and furnace filters reguarly can help improve air flow and efficiency. Also consider using a dust collector or air filtration system.

Tip 9 – When possible, Air Dry your Laundry. Clothes lines are cheap, and best of all they’re free to use! Air drying your clothing in the Spring/Summer months can help save as much as $75 a year.

Tip 10 – Energy Efficient Thermostats Save You Money. Are you paying for heat or electricity you don’t even need? You can save money by using a programmable thermostat which switches off whilst you’re at work, away on vacation or even asleep.

For the first time, we are likely to see the size of federal agency emissions as each agency is forced to take stock of its overall energy use and conservation. President Obama’s executive order, number-514, places considerable emphasis on the carbon emissions of each department and calls for a plan to reduce the same.

The federal government is by far the largest user of energy and consequently the largest emitter of greenhouse gases in the United States. It may be surprising that individual agency emissions have never been closely detailed, yet it is true that each agency is largely unaware of the scale of its own problem. The executive branch expects them to determine these details in short order and come up with a plan for the future.

While the House of Representatives may have passed their own climate related Act during early 2009, it is not clear whether the Senate will act anytime soon regarding their own version. This has caused environmental advocates around the world to sharply criticize the US for recalcitrance. Obama’s executive order goes some way to appease the critics, as agency emissions account for a very considerable part of the country’s overall footprint.

As Obama has said quite clearly that he is a supporter of containment, it could be argued that his executive order was to be expected. However, rather than setting the overall goal, the chief executive has asked each agency chief to determine its own problem and to suggest a percentage reduction package. This puts considerable pressure on each agency to analyze and determine.

The federal government now faces challenges which are surely to be assumed by other organizations in the years ahead. Each organization must be aware of its entire operation, how each of its assets uses energy and consequently pollutes the environment. Such a comprehensive analysis is a challenge and must be conducted down to a micro-level, if it is to be effective.

Within the next 10 years, agency emissions must be reduced by a yet to be stated, but surely considerable margin. To become sustainable, a goal must be measured against an established baseline and it will be necessary for each agency to adopt specific systems and solutions to help them understand this first.

Several major US agencies are responsible for issues related to climate change and environmental damage, but the majority of agencies and departments will no doubt have to take a crash course on energy reduction and sustainability.

While calling for agency emissions to be reduced and existing systems and assets to be optimized for efficiency, the executive order also calls for a majority of new projects and buildings to be sustainable, to ensure that future growth is contained.

Daniel Stouffer has a lot of data about agency emissions and how a visit to www.verisae.com can aid you.

Have you ever wondered why you need drinking water filters? Well, once you figure out exactly what is in the water you drink, it will definitely be understandable. The truth is there are thousands of contaminants that can be found in your tap water.

Water filters are built to take out all the bad elements of your sink water. Did you know there are prescription drugs in it? They are considered to be one of the most common contaminants in water today. Just one of the many reasons you have to take a good hard look at the drinking water filter.

Something that everyone must do when it comes to buying drinking water filters is making sure that you do your research first. Knowing what is in your water will better help you to choose a drinking water filter that is right for your home. Some of the things that riddle water everyday are fungi, viruses, bacteria, chemicals, prescription drugs, heavy metals and chlorine. These are only a few of the thousands of things that are commonly found in tap water all over the world.

The risks of drinking contaminated water are considerable. To begin with, you can get waterborne diseases like cholera, typhoid, botulism, and amoebiasis. But that is not even the worst part.

Some of the more serious cancer-causing agents that are found by drinking tap water are benzene, and certain carcinogens that have been known to lead to cancer. With that said it’s hard to believe that there are still hundreds of thousands of homes that still do not have a water filtration system.

There is simply no way that body can handle some of the bacteria that are in tap water. The body is not set up to function properly with these things in it. So if an adult can’t handle most of these types of bacteria imagine what it does to a child’s body.

The chemicals, drugs, and bacteria that are found in tap water have been consistently known to affect children in many different ways. Some of the things that it does is it can cause your child to have certain diseases, or even stunt your child’s growth.

When it comes time to look for a water filter, there are several choices available. You will soon find out that they are based on different purification technology. So your job is to find out what water filters are the most effective.

If you are looking for the best water purifying system then you will probably want to go with carbon block as your system of choice. If you decide to choose reverse osmosis or distillation they are effective but not considered the best by most experts.

You see some of the water drinking systems out there will not only eliminate the bacteria but it will also eliminate the minerals in the water that your body needs. Chlorine is something that is in tap water and makes it taste awfully bad but also is not good for the body.

Some of the units that you buy may cost quite a bit of money, however there are some that will not burn a hole in your pocket. The best thing to do is to make sure that you compare the price and look at how much you spend on bottled water.

In the end, it simply can’t get any easier. You know you have a problem with your water, and there are drinking water filters that are inexpensive to purchase. Plus they are considered the best ones available. So it won’t be long before your worries are forgotten and you’re drinking healthy water again.

In all probability you will have heard talk of new smart meters being installed in homes, which have the ability to relay information back to the electrical company with regards to power consumption. Unlike the old regular meters, these new smart meters can identify power consumption in detail, and it is hoped that this may result in the average person using less electricity. Let’s go ahead and take a look at what the smart meters really mean:

Unlike the old traditional meters which were only able to track the amount of energy consumed, the new smart meters will be able to measure not only how much electricity is being used, but also when it is used. It is hoped that this will allow electricity companies to set different rates according to the times when the most energy is being consumed and as such, it may help to encourage people to use electricity during off peak hours in order to take advantage of reduced rates.

Italy’s dominant utility is currently serving over twenty-seven million customers with fully electronic smart meters capable of measuring and managing power, and which have a software controlled disconnect switch. They’re solid state, and communicate via low voltage power lines. These systems offer more features to utilities, allowing remote changing of billing plans, the ability to detect outages and unauthorized use, and the ability to turn power on and off remotely.

Smart meters have also been implemented in Turkey, Canada, New Zealand, the Netherlands, Scandinavia and Australia. In the United states, a number of jurisdictions are actively pursuing smart meter technology, such as Northen California, Los Angeles, and Austin, Texas. Implementation is imminent in the UK and in Ireland. Energy experts have noted that it’s important for meters to allow homeowners to make choices such as buying their power when it’s cheapest and selling wind turbine and solar panel electricity to utilities when they choose to.

The biggest problem with smart meter technologies is generally communication, since each meter must be able to securely and reliably communicate the information to a central point. This can be tricky, given the range of locations and environments in which these meters are located. Some solutions that have been proposed include cellular networks, radio, and power line communications.

Interestingly enough, the U.S. president has just recently called for 40 million smart meters to be installed, including 3,000 miles of transmission lines. As many have pointed out, this will be the first real upgrade to America’s electrical grid in more than 40 years. Many also believe that such changes will be so significant; it could be compared to the Internet, the telephone, and the country’s railroad. Of course it should be mentioned that one of the main reasons this project is being supported, is because it promises to be able to utilize electricity which has been generated from renewable resources. Additionally, it is also believed that this project will effectively reduce the need for any new power production facilities.

Smart meters can cost anywhere from a hundred to three hundred dollars to install – each. The amount depends on the quality of the smart meter in question, but it will be a significant investment. However, venture capitalists have been investing in this technology recently, so it may be possible. Soon, you could be choosing when you use power based on the price, and possibly saving money and energy.
