With the prevailing economic global conditions, families everywhere are evaluating their expenses and costs. If you belong to such a household and are considering the purchase of a car, your options are numerous. You could invest in a modestly priced new car, but if you really want to save money you should invest in a high quality second hand vehicle. Whether you prefer a Toyota or a Honda, there are numerous operationally sound cars out there in the market.

One of the main benefits of buying a used car is getting a reliable vehicle within your budget. A well-planned budget means less stress and there literally dozens of cars that will suit your tastes and needs within that price range. Make sure you get the car examined thoroughly or if you’re a car lover, do it yourself. Always take the car for a spin on a variety of roads to check how it performs under different scenarios.

One of the other main benefits of buying a used car is the relatively lower drop in resale value in percentage terms. Unlike new car resale prices, which drop a substantial amount with the first few years of operation, used cars command relatively higher prices compared to the original purchase value. This is a great way to ensure that you loose less money when you sell your second hand car at some point in the future.

Insurance premiums can be a significant contributor towards costs if the car you purchase has a high market value. New cars have far higher premiums compared to those of used cars. If you already have a car, and you’re buying a second used vehicle, approach your existing insurance company for a discount in the second car because of the additional business you’re providing them.

Newspapers and popular online classifieds cater to the sale of used cars and have fresh deals day after day. The variety of used cars and the ease with which they can be found have increased and with websites offering advanced search options, you can find a particular car for your price range within minutes.

Buying a used car is simple and with the availability of a wide variety of models, you really don’t have to sacrifice that much in terms of desired features and trims. The substantial savings realized can no longer be ignored in these unpredictable and unstable times. So cut down on the pressure and save that cash for a time of crisis.

Your hybrid car’s environment-friendly features lie in its engine. They are a combination of a gas engine and an electric motor that assists a car as it accelerates, slows down and even when it stops. Throughout all these basic actions, the hybrid car engine plays a major role so that the least amount of gas is used and cleaner emissions achieved.

Breaking It Down

The hybrid car’s gas-electric feature allow the vehicle to run both on gas and electricity. A gas-powered car has a fuel tank and it is this tank that supplies the engine with the gasoline it needs to run. The engine then turns a transmission which is what it essentially behind the turning of wheels.

An electric car’s motor is powered by a set of batteries. In this case, it is the electric motor that turns the transmission that turns the wheels. Although mileage is something that gas-powered cars have been covering with great efficiency in later years, there is still the issue of air pollution, which is something a hybrid car is a solution to.

The hybrid’s motor doesn’t produce any pollution at all. But an electric car can only go so far before having to be charged again. Now, by combining these two functions into one, a hybrid car engine attempts to increase mileage while reducing emissions of a gas-powered car and also reducing the use of large amounts of fuel. And to make up for the electric motor having to be charged, it is now left to the gas-powered engine and transmission to charge the cells in the batteries found in a hybrid electric vehicle. It’s a simple solution that has had great and positive effects with respect to fuel economy and eco-friendliness.

Cutting Costs

The hybrid car engine is known to help keep carbon dioxide emissions down and therefore it helps to improve our environmental situation by keeping pollution levels at bay and much lower. But most importantly (to average consumers), hybrid cars can save you money gas and maintenance costs. The engines of these cars are quite small and easy to manage so they last for a very long time and are quite durable.

Considering that many car manufacturers offer free parts replacements on hybrid models, this is probably the best purchase that you can make when considering what car to buy. There is also the added tax break that the US government has promised to all owners of new hybrid vehicles purchased after January 1 2006.

Its environment-friendly as well as its being economical make the hybrid technology popular among both manufacturers and consumers. It is perhaps one of the most overlooked technologies in the world but a growing awareness of these vehicles will eventually lead to a future of more hybrid electric vehicles on city streets and highways.

The last six years have seen the increase on demand for hybrid cars by 50%. It’s no surprise how much of an effect they have had on the average driver and consumer but it seems that hybrid is definitely the future of the automobile industry; so much so, in fact, that it’s also not a shock to see hybrid car rental companies sprouting up here and there.

On the Rise

Long before the introduction of electric hybrid, car rental companies that support environment friendly vehicles have been around already. They were renting out other vehicles that were either purely electric or were using power sources other than the fuel and electric combination as well as the conventional gas-powered cars as well. As soon as hybrid electric vehicles were introduced, it was inevitable for these companies to add them to their rosters as well.

Advantage

In order to address the demand for the use of hybrid electric cars, it is just as well then that these car rental agencies do exist. For the consumer, it will be a good opportunity to test out a hybrid before making the decision to purchasing to own one. By renting one out for a week or so, a person will be able to determine if the hybrid electric definitely will do what manufacturers say it will do.

Not all hybrid cars are the same. The concept behind the technology may be the same for all manufacturers but there are a few key differences between hybrid models released by various car companies.

Savings

With hybrid car rental companies, travelers now find it more convenient to get around. Travelers who do use hybrid cars will most definitely be spending much less on gas since hybrid electric vehicles can run for much longer on lesser amounts of gas.

In the long run, if this trend remains, hybrid electric cars will do much better than their gas-dependent counterparts as far as car rentals are concerned. This also means that car rental agencies that do rent out hybrid vehicles will probably rent them out at even cheaper prices since fuel rates will not be too much of a concern for them.

Maintenance for hybrid cars is also easier because it does not have too many mechanical engine parts under the hood. Since they are simple and get the job done more efficiently and in an eco-friendly way, consumers not only save money, but they end up saving the world from hazardous carbon dioxide emissions as well.

As the demand for hybrid car rental rises, so does companies renting hybrid cars. Perhaps through these hybrid car rental agencies, people will learn to appreciate hybrid vehicles even more which will hopefully lead to their use over gas guzzlers in the city streets and highways.

The Civic and the attitude of conservation were vital in Honda’s international accomplishment as a major player in the auto industry. Prior to the North American introduction of its most well known model, the Civic, in the early seventies, Honda was principally acknowledged as the foremost motorcycle manufacturer in the world. Its smaller sized cars had previously been launched in Japan and later in the United States but failed in creating a name for Honda in the international car market.

The United States was in the middle of an energy crisis and people were searching for ways to decrease expenses and unnecessary costs. The high gasoline prices created a severe inflationary pressure on middle income and less privileged families, . The Civic turned out to be a timely answer to many Americans prayers, with its fuel-efficient engine and compact shape. A car that could comfortably accommodate four people and considerably reduce fuel consumption was an offer not to be missed.

Although the major factors of the Civics resounding success were its condensed size and fuel saving abilities success, consumers were attracted to its other features as well. Initially introduced as two variations, a front wheel drive, two and three door hatchback with a four-cylinder, water-cooled engine, the Civic proved to be exciting and enjoyable to drive within city centers and on the motorway. The Civics growing reputation convinced Honda to introduce more choices for the Civic and add entirely new models to its car line up.

The Civics growing acceptance in the United States led to the introduction of a new four-door, five-speed wagon. With each passing year, new efficiencies and designs were added such as low emissions, larger engine compliant with the regulatory demands at that time. A sportier look was introduced and its styling was constantly improved and refined. Car buyers were attracted by its groundbreaking and inimitable features and this helped profits rise progressively.

In a move to further strengthen its position across different segments of the car market, Honda soon introduced two higher end, trendy cars to draw a more profitable and upscale crowd. The Accord and Prelude helped to penetrate a yet untapped part of the automotive industry, while the Civic was perpetually improved and included upgraded features and trims that were not offered by other cars in the same class. Honda held steadfast to its ideology of resource preservation and its reputation remained largely unscathed at a time when awareness of the dangers of carbon emissions was becoming increasingly wide spread.

Honda’s plan to launch a fuel-efficient car in an era of growing costs proved productive. With improvement after improvement, the Civics brilliantly designed interior and exterior, reliability, fuel economy and minimum running expenses have been a tremendous success with car buyers the world over. It has gained the status of one of the most well recognized and liked cars in its class and as many drivers will testify, once you purchase a Honda Civic there’s no other car that can satisfy you.

Yes we all know the benefits of buying a used car are manifold, but are you actually buying the one that’s right for you? There are several factors to consider while purchasing a used car and require some thought and research well in advance. Rushing into a deal that you may regret later hardly serves your purpose. So here’s what you should consider while choosing your ideal used car.

How much money you can spend on your used car is extremely important. The goal is to buy a car that suits your budget and not one that adds additional strain on your finances. Be sure you have enough in the bank for a rainy day and unforeseen problems. Work out your monthly savings and combined with your current savings decide on how much financing you might require, if any. Thoroughly research your financing options selecting a secure and easy payment scheme with which you have peace of mind. Impressing the neighbors and relatives should be low in your priority if you are opting for any form of financing.

The next step should be which particular car, make and model you want, something that will suit your budget. For example you could choose a Toyota Corolla Gli 2005. If you’re on a tight budget, buy a car that has high resale value so you can easily sell it off a few years later. In Pakistan Honda Civic, Toyota Corolla and all Suzuki models are extremely popular and always in demand no matter what the year of manufacture. This strategy will pay off and help you save in the future.

The other important things to keep in mind while selecting a car include fuel consumption, maintenance and repair costs. A car with a larger engine could give you the speed you desire, but could also cost your heavily on gasoline costs. Spare parts and repairs should also be considered. Once gain, in Pakistan Honda and Toyota spare parts and repair costs are far higher than a Suzuki. A little dent or broken fender can result in substantial outflow of cash. Choose extra features carefully as well as often unnecessary luxuries like a sunroof or heated seats can jack up car prices substantially.

So how do you find these cars that suit you finances? You probably already know the answer to that question. Search popular publications like newspapers and magazines that carry a classifieds section especially on Sundays. The other, often easier alternative is online classifieds. Classified websites are easy to search and are perfect for people with a budget. Most classifieds have advanced search features, one of which is a price range. Your budget should be the upper limit not the lower one. The search result will show you hundreds of cars if you’ve chosen you website wisely.

Organize your results in the form of a spreadsheet like Excel or on paper. Make sure you have columns for price, features, make, model, year of manufacture and contact details. Clump similar car makes together so you can examine the variation in prices for similar car models and year of manufacture. Using this data you can bargain for a better deal on a used car that you want to buy.

Once you’re done with the steps above feel free to start contacting the sellers. Remember to keep all your records up to date and add any new information you find along the way. Soon you’ll be enjoying a trouble free car that lets you sleep peacefully on most nights.

When choosing your hybrid car options, consider the manufacturers that offer free part replacements on the model that you’re getting.

[I:http://www.recyclingproducts.ca/wp-content/uploads/2009/08/JoeCarey2.jpg]From the time its well-liked models, the Accord and the Civic, were launched a little over three decades ago, Honda rapidly rose to become the favorite car in its class for both new and used car seekers. As cars at that time offered ordinary features which were common to competing models, Hondas ability to deliver extra features and trims to consumers for approximately the same price helped it gain instant acceptability in the market.

Long before Honda arrived on the car scene in Pakistan, Toyota had introduced several well-established and highly popular models in the automotive industry. Brands like Corona, Corolla, Crown and Mark II were leaders in their own class with other manufacturers like Mazda, Suzuki and Nissan had only a few models serving as poor competition. Toyota had an image of being a highly dependable car that could be resold for high prices in the used car market. Consumers favored Toyota for its practical value and a poor choice of similar cars.

Companies and car buyers saw Honda as an opportunity to possess both luxury and reliability. Hondas models had additional features and trims like a power steering and lamps, which other competing car manufacturers did not offer at the time. Out of the blue Honda had a significant presence on the urban roads and highways in Pakistan and became a widely acknowledged and sought after vehicle. Toyota faced a decline in sales, but managed to retain a substantial portion of the market unlike the other less fortunate manufacturers who were fighting to stay afloat.

Time after time Hondas skillfully crafted interior and exterior gave its cars a significant lead over competing brands. Its interior had more space, enhancing the drivers experience by providing a more comfortable ride for short and long distances alike. To compete successfully in the 1300CC engine capacity market against such names as the Toyota Corolla, Honda introduced the City, once again providing features that no other car at the time was offering. Honda soon started operations in Pakistan in collaboration with a well known local firm and hence, managed to remain competitive on price.

Hondas well-designed engine and good fuel economy helped boost its growing popularity and demand. Used Toyota had been obtaining high resale prices, while cars of other makes faced considerable depreciation in value. The widely publicized dependability and efficiencies of Honda cars, however, soon drove both the demand and price for its cars upwards in the Pakistani used car market.

Honda has quickly developed a remarkable reputation for fuel efficiency, dependability and a dramatic look and feel. With an impressive track record, it seems like Honda will be leading the new and used automotive industry for a considerable period of time, in spite of efforts by competitors to launch a range of new models. Well done.

by Colin Jones

Hybrid cars are on everyone’s lips these days. $20, $30, $40 or even $50 for a tank of petrol? Who really wants to pay that sort of money? But, frustrated, the petrol customer sighs, but pays up. However, hybrid vehicles are being richly applauded for the small amount of gas they need to operate, and they are being driven off the forecourts of car dealerships each and everyday in ever increasing numbers.

However, what about a plug-in hybrid? Most drivers have heard that these cars are fantastic too. Then, someone might be asking him or herself, what exactly a plug-in hybrid is? How they work, and what the difference between a plug-in hybrid and a regular hybrid is?

Plug-in hybrid cars are capable of running just on batteries, but they can also use gas also. These sorts of hybrid cars have some of the features of hybrid vehicles. They are also very similar to all-electric vehicles.

Plug-in hybrid cars need to be recharged externally by connecting a plug to an electrical power source. The combustion engine in plug-in hybrid vehicles is engaged only as a back up. These cars can run only on batteries if desired, but it is expected that these types of hybrid cars be plugged in daily.

Hybrid cars travel just as many miles as a conventional car. Designed to go the extra mile where gas-mileage is concerned, hybrids can be driven on the highway, in cities, or wherever else anybody needs to drive.

On the other hand, plug-in hybrids are designed to handle commuter-type distances, meaning about twenty to sixty miles between destinations. This way, the plug-in hybrid does not have to use its back up combustion engine, but plug-in hybrids can go further using gas too.

Hybrids help to minimize pollution, but they still pollute the air. Compared with plug-in hybrids, hybrid cars still have a long way to go where pollution is concerned. Since plug-in hybrid cars can run solely on their battery power, they don’t have to emit waste fuel emissions. That means that plug-in hybrids don’t have to pollute the air.

Plug-in hybrids actually do combat greenhouse gas emissions and plug-in hybrids use virtually no oil imported or not. Studies have shown that electric hybrids emit at least 67% less greenhouse gases compared with gasoline cars. Since the product used to power plug-in hybrids is renewable, the difference in greenhouse gas emissions may be even greater than the study indicated.

So there you have it – those are the major differences between plug-in hybrids and regular hybrid cars. It could make a big difference, but you would be surprised at how little it actually matters at the moment, but tht’s only because plug-in hybrids are not being sold to consumers yet! But this article should make you excited about the wonderful plug-in hybrid car, coming soon to a forecourt near you.

And it’s going to be a spectacular debut too, since people already like the current hybrid car models, but they haven’t seen anything yet until they see the new plug-in hybrid cars. However, for now, maybe we should just be happy with what we already have, because who knows? Before plug-in hybrid cars are brought out onto the forecourts, something even better might be introduced onto the market.

by Michael Skatoli

In the next year electric cars, or zero emission vehicles (ZEVs) as they are often referred to, will be an everyday sight on streets right across the world. The stuff of science fiction books will have become science fact.

Basic electric vehicles are already available to motorists in some countries and are set to become significantly more sophisticated and widespread in the next few years.

The concept of an electric vehicle is nothing new, it has been around for decades. However, the pressing need to cut carbon emissions in an attempt to slow global warming has quickened the development of this next generation of road transport.

Affordable electric cars and ZEVs are already being manufactured and will soon be widely available in showrooms around the globe. We are already familiar with hybrid cars, which have been around for many years. These cars use both electric and gasoline propulsion to help reduce emissions. Electric vehicles take eco-friendly motoring to a higher level, in that they have no emissions at all – they don’t even have a tail pipe. The benefits of this are likely to be dramatic, especially in polluted heavily populated areas, as electric vehicles and ZEVs become commonplace.

So how does the electric car work? Electric vehicles use electric motors and motor controllers instead of the traditional internal combustion engine. Instead of standard gasoline, these vehicles are powered by electricity from battery packs, although cutting edge methods of energy storage are being developed that should replace battery packs in the near future. As we speak, special filling stations for the electric vehicle revolution are springing up on roadsides around the globe where drivers can stop and refuel their electric vehicles, just like at a normal filling station.

That said, for many motorists, the transition from the standard gasoline car that we all know and love to electric cars and ZEVs will require quite a big leap of faith. However, electric cars have so many things going for them that the transition should be a pretty easy one.

Running costs – The fact that electric cars are cheaper to run and cost less to keep on the road will likely win over their most steadfast opponents. Car owners will get far more miles for their dollar and the expense of maintaining these cars will be a lot cheaper than servicing a normal car.

Global warming – As electric vehicles become more common, the benefits to the environment will be huge. This is especially the case in large urban areas where smog and air pollution at street level presents a serious health hazard to people.

Some worries do remain over electric cars, such as how long it takes to recharge battery packs, the top speeds and acceleration of the cars, and concerns such as handling and performance. However, as car manufacturers pump more and more resources into perfecting these vehicles, these worries are likely to be dealt with sooner rather than later.

by Colin Jones

It has been said that not enough people are doing all they can do to fight against the energy crisis. Hybrid cars can help, but probably not enough people are driving them. Here are a few issues related to the energy crisis and how hybrid cars can help.

The U.S. isn’t doing enough really. The USA uses more fossil fuels than any other country in the world. However, most people think that all of our energy problems can be solved if we would only investigate further into the oil deposits in Alaska or if we exploited the recent oil discovery in the Gulf of Mexico more.

Hybrid cars can have the result of us not having to use other sources of energy to maintain economic growth. Hybrid cars won’t cause Americans to use more fossil fuel. Rather, hybrid cars make Americans use less fossil fuel.

Energy consumers just accept increasing fuel prices. People used to be concerned that fuel prices are much higher now than they were years ago. Now, however, people just accept the higher prices. In the meantime, cars are getting bigger and bigger. Car manufacturers are making trucks and SUVs, which consume more petrol at the higher prices.

These cars use more petrol, but you would never believe just how many people will not give up their fuel-guzzling SUV. Hybrid vehicles do eventually cost their owners less to own than conventional cars do. So there is no need to worry about putting up with being swindled by the oil economy.

Soon there could be an end to the “cheap oil period”. Soon, we could all be in too deep, because not only will we be in an energy crisis, but in a peak oil crisis as well. During this peak oil crisis period, there will be petrol shortages and natural gas shortages too. The major countries will need to compete against one another for whatever small amount of oil is left.

Therefore, everyone could have some problems, and countries may have to fight for who gets oil and who does not. The peak petrol crisis can be put off, if more people just purchased hybrid cars. Hybrid cars ensure that people are not always having to be looking for gas. Additionally, there are advances being made in hybrid vehicles all the time.

The plug-in hybrid vehicles, for example, might not even need oil whatsoever one day. So, just in case we do have an energy crisis, Americans ought really to be spending the time to finding a solution to the impending oil crisis in the U.S. Hybrid vehicles are the way to beat the energy crisis, and if countries still want to fight each other over fuel, at least America will know they tried to stop the impending crisis by investing in hybrid cars.

So, that’s it. The United States’ mass use of hybrid cars would make it so that Americans need less gas. But Americans also still have yet to gain from the large amount of money being made from hybrid vehicles. The majority of popular hybrid vehicles come from Japan. So Americans ought to bring that money back into the country as well as do something about the current energy crisis.
