Throughout history manufacturing companies and heavy industry have been the biggest polluters of the environment. The current newsworthy global green debates are all because of the industrial companies’ inefficient waste systems for disposal. Enormous amounts of medical waste and chemically toxic waste have been dumped in our seas and oceans and unlimited greenhouse gasses from factories and industrial plants. If all the large industrial corporations adopted the use of compaction equipment fervently then this environmental crisis could start to be tackled.

Rubbish, waste, garbage, litter; whatever we choose to name it, we all create it and need to be responsible for its disposal. However, the industrial companies produce the most toxins and emit the most harmful gasses and they have to tackle this. The collecting, processing, transporting, disposing and recycling of waste and the monitoring thereof is called waste management. It is done to limit the effect of waste on the environment and people’s health.

Many nations now have waste management regulations and policies especially countries like the U. S and those in Europe. However, the developing countries, which can be extremely large and heavily populated often do not have nationwide protocol regarding the disposal of waste. Schemes that are implemented in the developed countries often target consumers and local authorities, unfortunately not the large industrial companies who are the biggest offenders. These companies need to set up their own corporate schemes regardless of whether government authorities tell them to do so.

The advantages of industrial companies using compaction solutions are that this eradicates the need for landfill placements, thus lowering the cost of transportation and space and that they may be creating more material for their long-term manufacturing needs. This is the main argument to deal with companies that complain that compaction equipment is too expensive.

Another benefit is that corporations who use compaction schemes may actually generate more business. Being green is very popular these days and implementing recycling policies will have good publicity. This in turn will mean that consumers may well buy from these companies instead of firms who dispose of waste traditionally. Intelligent companies who are future-minded can benefit in this way by publicising their green policies.

Progressive corporations have been shown to out-perform the more traditional old-fashioned competition.

Industrial corporations which oppose the growing trend to be conscious of their environment are likely to perish in the long-run. Using the new equipment and technologies available in the market today will ensure they remain in business. To have the staying-power, firms need to be progressive and forward-thinking with regards to their waste management techniques. Failing to do so will have catastrophic consequences.

All of this shows that those industrial firms which implement the environmentally friendly compaction equipment, which is widely available nowadays, will prosper and have a healthier, cleaner and better future. Increasingly companies who do not have efficient and green waste management schemes will find themselves reprimanded and may cease to exist at all. By increasing productivity and helping the environment, going green is really the best thing to do.

The largest environmental polluters in today’s world are industrial corporations. Most of the global environmental issues which are regularly in the news are a result of manufacturer’s irresponsible waste management. Extensive disposal of chemical toxins and medical rubbish in the oceans and unrestricted noxious atmospheric pollution, such as carbon monoxide, are the main cause of the current ecological crisis. This is the main reason why industrial corporations should make heavy use of compaction and recycling equipment.

Everybody produces waste; consumer households, small businesses and governments but the industrial corporations create the majority along with toxic by-products and greenhouse gasses and need to take action. Waste management can be defined as the processing, collection, transport, recycling or disposal, and monitoring of waste materials. Waste management techniques are mostly undertaken to diminish the consequences of waste on health and the environment.

Developed countries such as America and most of the European countries now have a code of behaviour for waste management but much of the developing and more populated countries around the world have no regulations regarding the environment at all. Those nations which have mandatory environmental waste policies also tend to concentrate more on small household and local recycling than corporate industrial recycling of rubbish. Nevertheless large industrial corporations should implement best practice waste recycling and compaction policies on their own without government intervention.

The primary cost of putting compaction and recycling equipment in place may be high, but these firms need to take into account the long-term benefits that they will receive. By using compaction and recycling equipment for their industrial waste they can get rid of the cost of clearance by eliminating their landfill placement requirements, and potentially produce more raw materials for their manufacturing uses in the future.

Additionally, if a company chooses to recycle they could increase their business as customers who know and respect the company’s recycling policy buy from them rather than from the competition who do not endorse compaction and recycling. These days being environmentally friendly is extremely trendy and companies that implement a recycling program can only create positive publicity which in turn can create more business for the clever, conscientious and up-to-date firm.

Industrial firms with strategic long-term vision always tend to do better than companies with outdated views.

Currently using environmentally friendly schemes such as compaction to reduce waste and recycling is advocated to avoid ecological disaster. This means that industrial companies need to evolve accordingly to guarantee their long-term success. Inflexibility and unwillingness to use new and advanced technologies and equipment will prevent these firms from being able to sustain themselves in the future.

Industrial companies must take the initiative and implement greener waste management schemes to reduce or recycle their waste products in order to avoid being penalised and eventually maybe going out of business. The most realistic way to do this is by investing in the compaction and recycling equipment available on the market today, which will enable them to enjoy a cleaner, enhanced and increasingly productive future.

The higher levels of concentration of greenhouse gases like carbon dioxide in the air has resulted in worldwide concern because of the extremely dangerous effects it has on the environment. Carbon credits and carbon offset are methods that have been introduced for improving the current difficult situation by encouraging companies to utilize greener ways for running their operations.

The carbon credits concept is quite recent. One carbon credit allows one tonne of carbon dioxide or a corresponding amount of other greenhouse gases to be released in the air. The carbon trading method, which is basically the financial transaction of these carbon credits, leads to capping of global emissions.

Every company is given an allowance of carbon credits, which regulates the extent to which it can discharge carbon dioxide and other harmful gases. A firm needs to resort to carbon trading when its emissions are more than the levels permitted by its carbon credits quota, in order to purchase credits from those enterprises that have made use of greener methods and have extra carbon credits.

As a consequence, the global carbon emissions stay within prescribed levels, and the firms come up with ecologically sustainable means of doing business so that their emissions are lesser and they are spared of making extra expense on carbon credits. The method also rewards green firms and motivates them to opt for eco friendly techniques so as to increase their earnings through sale of their carbon credits in the market.

It is simple to buy carbon credits from various agencies that sell them in an open market from where they can be bought like any other financial instrument. Carbon credits can also be purchased by persons not representing any organization, if they wish to bring down their own carbon footprint. The amount you spend in this manner is used for funding environmental projects that are being conducted across the world in order to counterbalance the effects of emissions from your activities.

Making businesses aware of how effective and efficient Green advertising is, will be difficult because a lot of companies are stuck in their old ways. It is difficult to change businesses and individuals behavior, because they dont like change and they are comfortable with the advertisement they have now. What people dont realize or want to acknowledge is how much junk mail effects our environment or how it pollutes our air and land. Green advertising can eliminate paper, plastic, air and water pollution, because most people dont realize how destructive this advertising is on the environment and to our own health.

Virtually every U.S. citizen is affected by an endless stream of unwanted advertising or “junk” mail delivered by the United States Postal Service (USPS). Junk mail can be defined as unsolicited promotional mail that is unwanted. Junk mail is most often, but not always, third class mail sent via bulk rates. This article details some of the known environmental impacts of junk mail. The article also discusses several legal issues concerning junk mail, focusing on privacy and fairness. Finally, areas of study to investigate which could hopefully solve the problem are proposed.

The Effects on the environment of junk mail are quite large. In 1991, 62 million trees had been cut down for junk mail. More than 74,000 acres of trees were cut just for catalogs, in 1989, 63.7 billion pieces were sent, also 55 billion catalogs. This 7.4 billion represents pound of junk mail. Pulp processing to make paper for junk mail requires 25 billion gallons of water.

An average of 41 pounds is sent to each adult, 44 percent goes unread directly into the garbage, and 93 percent of junk mail will be discarded ultimately. Americans spend more than 275 million to dispose of junk mail. A marketing professor for New York University in one year received 601 catalogs, including 26 catalogs from American Express and 24 catalogs from L.L. Bean.

Junk mail is not very recyclable. In 1990, only 200,000 tons out of 3.8 million tons of junk mail were recycled. Workers at a N.J. mill must sort from junk mail all the “shampoo samples, watches, T-shirts, tea bags and other surprises that don’t make good paper.” Heavy metals in colored inks do not degrade and eventually re-enter the environment. The Direct Marketing Association (DMA) claims trees are renewable, and argues “We see the real issue as landfills.” Junk mail is an estimated two percent of municipal solid waste.

There is an environmental impact simply mailing all this mail around, primarily via motor vehicles. Mail trucks operate inefficiently, making constant starts and stops. After delivery, junk mail must still make at least one more trip to a landfill, incinerator, or recycling center.

The environmental force of ceaseless advertising of consumer products is the making of a materialistic culture in which possession of consumer goods replaces human social exchanges and spiritual improvement. There is no end to this materialistic spiral. People who define themselves by what they own will always desire that one new product, or replacements for all their old products, placing a constant demand on the environment. Materialism isolates a person from each other, which leaves them to entertain themselves with their things, rather than engaging in constructive community-building.

Privacy issues are major distresses with junk mail, to a normal individual. In July 1992, at least 2.5 million people had requested the DMAs Mail Preference Service, which will remove an individuals name from national direct mail listings. The New York Telephone Co. in May 1990 asked 6.3 million people if they wanted to remove their names from a list that it wanted to rent, and 800,000 responded in a positive way.

Businesses will pay more for unlisted phone numbers. More than half of the residential telephone numbers in California are unlisted. Objections to telephone solicitations led to passage of the Telephone Consumer Protection Act of 1991. This act restricts solicitors from calling somebody who asked not to be called again, and requires solicitors to keep a list of those requesting not to be contacted.

Businesses must start utilizing Green Advertising to lower their carbon footprint, and to give their company maximum spotlight. Translucent Advertising is a non-traditional Green Advertising company, that has a large network of brick and mortar stores for companies to advertise in. Translucent Advertising gives a business the option to grow their client base in their target market areas.

To become a Green business requires more than token efforts. There are literally hundreds of Green solutions that should be applied to any business operation, and yet most self-acclaimed Green businesses apply only a few modest Green ideas. Paper is one of the core issues of any Green business, and yet little has been literally done to address paper concerns in a business.

To set the stage, it is helpful to understand that paper and paper products make up 36% of municipal solid waste. When looking at the life cycle analysis of paper, it is necessary to consider that the largest percentage of what we are shoving into the landfills is paper. This brings us to two solutions on the downstream side of the issue. One is reducing our demand for paper and better ways to recycle rather than throwing paper in the trash.

There are the simple ideas of printing on both sides of the page or buying recycled paper. Some would suggest using the phone instead of mailing a letter. Others want us to increase the margins on our word process. These small changes do add up, but it seems that we are still ignoring the larger, more practical solutions for reducing paper use.

The upstream concerns of paper manufacture often starts with the harvesting of trees that are eventually turning into wood pulp. The process is something that is easily investigated, but the chemicals used are not mild. One of the most problematic is the chlorine that is used to bleach the paper to a bright white color.

Waste water from pulp and paper factories is again another unreported issue. The waste water is a mixture of various toxic chemicals such as Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs). VOCs are also commonly found in the making of shoes and the installation of carpets. When considering this, a paper making could not be considered a Green business. The downstream impact of the waste created by paper brings the concerned individual to the unmistakable conclusion is that paper use is a serious environmental issue and one that could be tremendously improved.

The paper industry creates air pollutants that contain carbon dioxide, nitrous oxides, sulfur dioxides, carbon monoxide, ammonia, VOCs, and minute particles like dust and ash. With every thing considered, paper making could not be considered, paper making could not be a Green business. The downstream impact of wasted created by the paper inustry brings everyone to the unmistakable conculsion that paper use is a serious environmental problem and one that could be tremendously improved.

Most of paper reduction strategies involve printing both side of paper, copying less, stopping magazines and junk mail. Some companies are asking their employees to increase the use of email. No one should ignore the importance of using recycled paper in the daily office operation. There are dozens of easy-to-apply ideas. Nevertheless, a very efficient solution seems to have eluded the environmentally-astute organizations like the NRDC. The new solution is the paperless office that works to eliminate paper use in the office.

The paperless system often includes: 1)Virtual meeting services that will solve travel and wasted time, 2) Software programs, such as accounting, billing and payroll, 3) Replacing fax machines with online services that can turn faxes into emails with a push of a button, 4) Document storage and retrieval programs.

The main problem with all of these Green solutions is that they require a ramp up time during installation. These new innovations also can require training of the employees to a new system. The beginning transition is a reality, but the results are enormous. Installing these paperless systems in your business will ultimately reduce paper use, decrease paper waste, and it will speed up the average office. The savings realized are not just in paper costs, but worker costs. Ultimately, fewer workers will actually do more work. Streamlining a business has a number of benefits. One positive response will come from customers who receive fast and correct responses to their exploration.

To earn a Green Business there need be a proven, trust worthy, and authentic certification. There is an vast amount of greenwashing, green hype, and green lies that Green businesses need be avoid. Green businesses can do this by being certified through Green Business League, which is a nationally recognized authority. Keep in mind, Green businesses are earned not buy.

If you get home and find out that you have a blocked drain then the there is always a cause for this problem. The first thing you need to do to save you time and money is to get a professional in to unblock the drain and then do a CCTV drain camera survey to find out what and where the problem is. Next we need to find the most suitable way to fix the problem that the CCTV survey has shown if any of course as sometimes things like wet wipes can block drains. Assuming the drain report has shown a problem we then need to work out how to fix it i.e if its collapsed it will have to be excavated , if it has root intrusion they will have to be cut out then patched and if it is grease or fat it will have to be cleaned with a high pressure water jetter

Root intrusion in to the drainage system always and up with the same result a blockage and when left to get out of control can even cause your pipe to collapse. If you think you have this problem again get a cctv drain camera survey to check .If there are roots the survey will pin point where the roots are. Next a drainage professional will cut the roots out the the aid of a root cutter on the end of a high pressure water jetting hose which will gently cut the intruding roots out. Then they should really patch the affected area to stop the roots grow back. You dont have to do this but it is really false economy as in a few months the roots will grow back and your drain will block again

One of the most common drainage repairs required is to cure a collapsed or cracked drain. A collapse can occur due to the old pipe cracking due to a heavy weight placed above ground or just general age. Drains may crack and joints open up resulting from ground movement, water infiltration, root ingress or vehicular traffic. The only solution in the past has been to locate the defective area and repair the pipe after excavating to expose the drain

It is not unheard of for foreign objects to be accidentally dropped down drainage systems especially on new build sites if man hole covers are left of during construction. I have seen all sorts of things down there including stones, wood and even work mens tools. Another favorite to be left down drains is drain rods, they normally come apart when people try to unblock their own drains instead of calling in the professionals. These obstructions can normally be removed with a high pressure water jetting machine but in more stubborn cases the drain can have to be dug up and replaced with new

This is a very cost effective, time saving and stress free product. No Dig Technology allows you to fix cracks, open joints and root ingress from within the pipe saving the stress, hassle and back ache of digging up a clients patio or lawn. We use a product made by Fernco but there are others on the market. Basically you measure in the pipe as to where the defect is by using a cctv drain camera. Then place the mating on the floor and fold as instructed, next spread the resin over the mat and wrap around the rubber inflatable packer. Push the packer down the drain to the defect and inflate using an air compressor. Leave to set and pull the packer out. The mat is left down the drain leaving a perfectly smooth patch covering the old defect

There are certain times when you have to excavate to get to the affected piece of pipe for example when a drain has collapsed you physically cant get a packer through the pipe to patch it. What you do is carefully remove the top layer of grass or patio slabs and store them safely ready for reinstating. Next you dig down to the defective area and cut out and replace the piece of pipe using slip collars to refit the new piece. Sometimes you might be cutting out a piece of clay pipe and replacing with pvc. The clay pipe is thicker than the pvc but that is not a problem as you can buy clay to pvc collars. Once the new pipe is instated cover the pipe with small chippings then backfill with what was excavated. Last but not least place back the grass or patio slabs to make the top layer as good as new

Green building design is an effort to design a building is such a way that it minimizes impacts on the environment and on people. Buildings designed in such a way can reduce the energy spent during construction and in operating the building throughout its lifespan. A wide variety of new materials, techniques and building practices have been developed over the past few decades to help building designers accomplish these goals.

The use of sustainable materials is one important characteristic of a green building design. Materials that qualify as sustainable include those that are available locally or those that are recyclable. Non-toxic materials as well as those that are reusable or renewable are often chosen as well. Orientation of the building on a site is another common characteristic of a green design. Building orientation can minimize unfavorable local weather conditions or take advantage of the sun to save a considerable amount of energy over the lifetime of the building.

Construction methods and techniques are chosen to minimize environmental disruption of the building site and reduce construction waste. Renewable energy sources such as active or passive solar or wind power may be included in the building design. High efficiency water, energy and waste systems are often included to reduce the long-term operating costs.

The global economic crisis has not reduced the trend towards sustainable building. Public demand and government initiatives have lead to a projected increase in green building. More than ever before, the public expects that products, services and even companies will be sustainable.

Many other countries have also implemented green building design initiatives, among them Canada, Israel, India, South Africa, the U.K., Mexico and Malaysia. Green building design standards or initiatives have been considered, recommended or begun.

The unprecedented public demand for all things “green” has spurred a bevy of competing green building standards. The best known is the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Green Building Rating System created by the US Green Building Council. Dozens of others exist, yet there is no national green building standard.

The lack of a national standard combined with increasing public demand has led some companies to falsely claim their buildings are green. In some cases the building designer has not considered sustainability at all. These companies may believe they cannot adequately compete in the marketplace without some claim to one green building standard or another.

The future of green building design and practices looks bright. Many believe this trend will only grow. Some say these green design and building practices will become much less discretionary and much more the industry standard. We’re not yet there, but every indication is that we’re moving quickly in that direction.

by John Pilmer

Of course you run your business in an ethical manner. But these days it’s no longer enough for a corporation to be quietly altruistic, whether from a genuine appreciation of success and a spirit of “giving back” to the community, (or for those all-important tax breaks.) More and more consumers are becoming environmentally aware and making marketplace choices based on that awareness. When faced with a choice, consumers are “going green,” and its important for your company to make its corporate social responsibility known.

Perhaps you’re wondering what corporate social responsibility is. It’s a business concept that began around the 1980′s, as the young idealists of the 60′s came of age and entered the business world with the notion that corporate citizenship was actually good for business. They created workplaces that provided benefits to employees, making those employees happier and more productive. More productivity meant more profit. But the idea went further, with educational programs and volunteerism which benefited the local community – or sometimes the world.

What is corporate social responsibility? Simply put, it’s making ethical, environmental and social concerns part of your standard business practices. Corporate responsibility can take many forms, including giving back to the community in one form or another, making certain your workplace is safe and aware of employee needs, or turning to greener practices, such as utilizing solar power, or refurbishing buildings with energy conservation in mind. Many corporations support programs in public schools or colleges.

Why is corporate social responsibility important to your company? The most important reason may be the growing public awareness of environmental and social concerns. When competing for business it’s vital to understand that consumers, faced with a choice, will more than ever chose the greener, more responsible service provider or product. The greener company can also avoid costly fines and clean-ups, which can cut disastrously into profits. Corporate responsibility can also help you attract the most promising and productive employees, and then help you to keep them by creating a work environment they can be proud to be part of and to work in.

How can you effectively implement corporate social responsibility into your company? Perhaps you already do. Do you encourage and reward volunteerism among your employees? Do you provide day care space for working parents? You probably already contribute to charitable organizations, and perhaps support education in your field.

More and more, consumers are making choices based on what they read, and in this economy, where the competition is increasingly fierce, you want potential clients and consumers to think of your business in its best capacity, and your service or product to have the best possible image. The services of a good PR firm or agency can help you find ways to become more involved, boost your image, and your corporation’s profitability.
