The Whole World Is Looking At Wind Power Systems
The whole World is realizing the need to look at alternative ways to generate energy. In some countries they are becoming popular, but Canada has been making use of wind power systems for years. It has become widely accepted within the local and business communities as the means of generating their power requirements.
Canada has been very proactive in how it has been seeking to use the wealth of the natural resources it has. It knows it has to supplement the power generated by the more traditional methods of hydro power stations and fossil fueled power stations.
Making use of the natural wind to power turbines to create electricity is great for the environment. Because of this the Canadian Wind Energy Association has introduced a plan that will increase the production of electricity to 55,000 MW by the year 2025. And the resource will not diminish, as have fossil fuels.
Ontario used to be the leader in using wind power but it has now been joined by Quebec and Alberta, and others are catching up fast. By the start of this century all of the provinces had made some progress into the utilization of renewable energy. They all know that they will have to implement the use of these farms, or some other form of alternate energy source, as the traditional sources are wearing thin.
Only one province, that of British Columbia, does not have a facility to source their power from the wind. But they are now taking steps to catch up with the rest of the country, and are going to be purchasing 300 MW of renewable wind-sourced electricity in the near future. It will not be long until the whole population of Canada can benefit from this renewable energy source.
Even with all these plans in place and the building of wind farms flourishing, compared with traditional sources wind power is only responsible for a small amount of energy produced. The wind farms that are currently operating in the country are generating about 2300 MW but as the number of wind farms increases so will their output.
In the United States the border cities of Chicago and Detroit are also taking an interest in what is happening in Canada. They are giving a lot more thought to the use of renewable energies, including the wind, to power the large number of factories in their area. The benefits to their budgets and the environment would be incredible. Even if relying totally on wind power to fuel the cities is not practical, there is also the possibility of developing hybrid projects in order to lessen the drain on fossil fuels.
But it is not just governments and big business that can benefit from this trend towards using alternative sources of energy. Residents can also get in on the act and buy equipment to create their own power from the wind. A small wind turbine would cost approximately $5000 and generate in the region of 25% to 30% of the amount of power that is normally needed domestically. If you have more space you could go for something that generates more energy, even up to 50%, but you will have to pay about $7000 for the equipment. If your requirements are a bit lower than that and you want to power your off-grid cabin you can get a machine that will supply 200 watts for as little as $600.
