Solar Panels-An Important Piece Of The Energy Puzzle
The sun’s rays are converted into usable energy with the use of solar panels.Solar panels are a type of device used to attract the suns energy which in turn powers other devices which produce renewable, usable energy. Solar panels are more common than you might think. For example, someone is using a solar calculator right now, and then there are more advanced solar panels used for satellites and even space ships. By the use of solar panels to convert the suns power into a usable form of electricity we become much more efficient and conscious of our environment.
Over a century ago, using the sun’s energy was much more primitive. Men had discovered they were able to power their machines by the use of the steam from the hot sun. Which not only started their machines but also maintained them. The news spread and scientists flocked to see this new discovery. They wasted no time in researching to develop more efficient ways to capture the sun’s energy. Hence the solar panel was developed and has only progressed since that time.
Photovoltaic or PV for short is the term used when talking about using solar cells to convert the sun’s power into electricity. Photovoltaic cells are actually thin layers of photovoltaic materials or thin film solar cells. These layers are then deposited onto a semiconductor or substrate. This produces a photovoltaic panel or more simply a solar panel. These solar panels can come in all shapes and sizes but are all designed to pull in the sun’s energy so it can be converted into electricity.
Solar panels can be seen on top of houses, buildings or you might see an array of solar panels in a field. The most common and often forgotten solar panel is that in our hand held solar calculators. With the ever rising electricity costs, research and development of more ways to use solar has skyrocketed. There are solar chargers, solar lights, solar computers, solar phones and ever solar vehicles in the works. Becoming more environmentally conscious is becoming the in-thing to do, it no longer belongs to the hippies of the 70′s or the secluded who want to be left alone. There are even whole sub-divisions being developed to be completely solar powered.
Finding solar panels for your home was not so easy a few years ago and they could be quite costly. The advances in technology have developed a more efficient, less costly solar panel which can be purchased right off of your computer. The tax incentives and programs sponsored by the government help limit the initial investment costs of making the switch to living off grid. That coupled with not having an electric bill every month, you could save thousands of dollars a year. So what are you waiting for, make the switch to powering your home with affordable, efficient solar panels.
